Behold: instructions for the iris mechanism! https://ko-fi.com/s/3f728f6dba

I wanted to have a new design together with publicly available instructions before next week's webinar. I'd love to see what other people do with it!

Hello! I want to do a Spooky Picture Prompt! So, find a picture in your camera roll that would represent the phrase:

Last Picture on the Camera Roll

This should be spooky, but completely up to your own interpretation. Here's one from me, with weird eclipse light.

Do you have a favorite species?

Mine is currently the wombat.

@Sheril I'm a big marmot fan, oddly enough!

Remember how I posted that our car got totaled a couple weeks ago? We bought a new car partially with the insurance payout from that (well, still used, but by far the newest car we've ever owned). It's a plug-in hybrid, which is completely perfect for our rural living situation! I'm excited.

But WOW, it's the first car I've ever had that's not a beater, and it feels like driving a freaking spaceship. I think I'm going to actually have to sit down and read the owner's manual. Any tips?

It's maddening, but: there is a tax on gasoline used to "help maintain the province's roads and highways". So the rationale is that EVs use the roads but don't pay gasoline tax. Hopefully we've got a better strategy someday...

@pinhman @deborahh @michelin That is an interesting idea, and the technologies involved are fascinating, but I think it hits an unfortunate snag. Point of use taxes tend to be regressive and abusable... Eg. Delivery Company X rebrands workers as contractors, makes them lease vehicles that used to belong to X, and now those contractors pay for the road. Office company Y forces employees to commute instead of work from home, employees pay for road that benefits Y.
