Lemmy’s sorting logic needs love. This is the first time it’s really been pressure tested with tens of thousands of simultaneous active users. Were learning that the current logic tends to promote content longer than some people like.
If people are still commenting and voting on a 3 day old posts, those post remain promoted.
Have at it. First ones I banged out in about an hour, but after looking at them on my phone, some stuff just didn’t scale well. Also that gradient background in the sandbox was just a screenshot of something I liked. Probably “fair use” but it wasn’t too hard to make some new gradients.

When CA banned affirmative action in the 90s, the US was unintentionally given a massive control cohort that could be used to quantify how fairly or unfairly affirmative action impacted kids that were black, white, asian, hispanic, etc.
I feel like with the 3rd party apps shutting down tomorrow, Lemmy could be flooded with new users. It would be a shame if their first experience here is with that front page bug.
The argument for it at the Supreme Court was basically cold hard math.
California banned it in the late 90’s, which basically gave the US a massive control variable. In the data set with AA, white and Asian students didn’t really have their futures and earning potential impacted by AA. That said, black and Hispanic kids saw massive lifts.
The other argument it is that the race neutral alternatives that were tried in CA over the last 25 years have not been as impactful at lifting the earning potential of black and Hispanic kids.
