Lime66,

What app is that on the left

rev,

Its not as polished as Apollo but years of development will do that for you.

I noticed at one point in the side swipe upvote the down vote and upvote waw pointing down just the color was changing

fuckstick,

I wonder if Christian can reuse Apollo as a Lemmy client and keep the project going

june,

Wefwef is a web app that is a near carbon copy of Apollo. It’s how I’m browsing and it’s great. Much better than the web interface.

[‘Distracted Boyfriend’ - A stock photo image of a man walking side by side with a woman in a blue shirt, holding hands, as a different woman in a red shirt walks past. The man appears to be whistling at the woman walking past, showing clear interest in her looks, while the woman he is walking with looks at him. The face of the woman next to him is replaced by the app icon for the app “Apollo for Reddit”, while the woman he is looking at has her face replaced by the app icon for “Memmy for Lemmy”]

CaptainApathetic,

That reminds me, I should be more mindful and include altext in my posts.

barter,

I wish I could hide posts, couldn’t find any apps that have that like Apollo had as a swipe option

simo,

On PC at least, go to your account settings and you can toggle ‘Show read posts’. Untick this, and anything upvoted or looked at (looked at the comments, aka opened up) Will go away upon refresh.

This behaviour will carry over to the apps on refresh. It’s quite aggressive though, so if you comment on something and want to check back on the activity you better bookmark it. But if you’re like me , you only mostly care about replies to your comment :P

barter,

Ah I wish I didn’t have to interact to hide it, but that’s better than nothing, works pretty well, thanks!

simo,

Yeah I’m a chronic post hider, so I neeeeeed it lol. Thankfully looking at images (by expanding them) also counts so it cuts down on upvoting/looking at comments. It’ll get there soon enough.

JuxtaposedJaguar,

Apollo is more like the wife who was murdered by Reddit, now watching you from heaven, hoping that you find a new social media platform to make you happy.

IUsedTo,

Which clients do you guys actually recommand?

aeternum,

I don't use it often as all my magazines and shit are on kbin, but i like mlem. It's a testflight app on iOS.

I don't think that anyone can say at this point which is the right app, because pretty much all of them came into existence extremely recently. We don't know where development will go or what features will be supported or anything.

Like, nobody has any extensive experience. Everyone is wading in for the first time. Hell, the app developers are too. No way of knowing what the situation will look like in six months.

I’m really enjoying Memmy so far.

I love Memmy, but that icon looks like a clown tick.

FYI, Memmy was JUST submitted to the AppStore at 8am yesterday. It’s waiting on review. 🤞

collegefurtrader,

I am enjoying memmy

carbonprop,

The dev has done very well for such early releases.

Retirix_YT,

Same

Is there a client/app for iPhone?

aeternum,

mlem is pretty good. It's a testflight app.

CodaChroma,

I’ve got like 4 downloaded right now

zav,

The more the better

Mac,

I have 6 downloaded so I can try them all. Lmao

Jerboa
Connect
Liftoff
Lemmur
Thunder
Wefwef

Edit: Connect was my favorite until i realized its absolutely riddled with trackers. RIP. Currently trying Wefwef but ill probably come back to Jerboa.

dingus,

Which Reddit client are you coming from? Which Lemmy app are you enjoying the most right now? I’m an Android user coming from RIF. So far I have the most experience with Wefwef and Jerboa, and Wefwef is winning by leaps and bounds. I haven’t tried too much of the rest, but I’m curious of your opinion on them if you’ve tried them all!

Mac,

I’m from RIF. I’m on Jerboa and i still haven’t tried the other ones because I’ve been doing other stuff. Lol

dingus,

Fair!

Mac,

Connect was my favorite until i realized its absolutely riddled with trackers. RIP. Currently trying Wefwef but ill probably come back to Jerboa.

Excited to try Boost when it releases.

dingus,

I saw some post about the trackers but I didn’t really understand what that meant. Can you explain?

Mac, (edited )

Here you can see all the requests it is making.
i.ibb.co/…/Screenshot-20230708-103114-Tracker-Con…

It might be the worst app i have installed in this regard.

Im using the Tracker Control app to see (and block) trackers, ads, etc.

EDIT: Some say this is due to visiting links within the app and using the in-app browser. I will open links on the external browser and find out.

Edit2: I disabled the in-app browser and reset the Tracker Control findings but am still finding lots of trackers according to Tracker Control.

dingus,

I guess I just don’t understand what the image means or its significance. But yeah would be interested to know the results of your edit.

Mac,

Ah, so some websites and apps will employ methods of data collection to learn things about you and then either use that information to feed you ads or sell it to other companies (or both). A lot of us prefer to keep what we can private and not be tracked so thoroughly.
Companies will build profiles on you that learn your likes, dislikes, political leanings, relationship status, gender, race, health issues, etc etc.

Even if some people are fine with being tracked another issue is that many companies have poor security and your data can be stolen in breaches by bad actors or sold to bad actors.

cowleggies,

Highly recommend checking out wefwef - closest option to an Apollo clone as I’ve seen so far in terms of UI and functionality, and doesn’t even need to be installed. Memmy is a very good second place option, but I’ve been using wefwef since I heard about it yesterday and ZI think it’s better.

FrayDabson,

I started with Mlem and wasn’t a huge fan and was primarily using Memmy. But I decided to try mlem again as it’s been a while and it looks much better! Might be my new daily driver. I’ll give wefwef a try too.

EmpathicVagrant,

Yeah like a week after I joined they completely changed the display, and it’s been my heavy hitter. Wefwef feels like I never left Apollo though.

FrayDabson,

Wow WefWef as a PWA is super nice.
