What was the American nuclear apocalypse movie? That’s the one I saw. Broadly similar in content and cultural effect.

How come more people are searching "mastodon" this week?

Cuz reddit and Twitter are going to hell?

Is there a quick ways to see changes in federation?

Is there a quick way to see what instances are federated with each other? I know for a while (and maybe still are) beehaw and Lemmy.ml defederated from Lemmy.world. Are they still defederated? Is it worthwhile to post on their communities if those users won’t see it?

Holy Toledo! That’s a metric shit ton of instances! I was scrolling for days. Go Lemmy!

Say no to Meta! They inevitably will want to Embrace, Enhance, Extinguish!

BotDefense is wrapping up operations on Reddit, due to the infeasibility of doing their work effectively in the aftermath of Reddit's API changes (www.reddit.com)

Reddit just became a lot more friendly to bots, and a lot less friendly to humans. Their block list covered 144,926 bot accounts. All those and more are going to get unleashed.

Low suphur shipping rules might be exacerbating global warming (www.carbonbrief.org)

The unintentional consequence of lowering sulphur content in marine fuel, as part of clean air regulations, is a weakened cooling effect caused by sulphur particles in ships’ exhaust fumes, according to a new model. This inadvertently exacerbates warming, potentially raising global temperatures by 0.05C by 2050. Other factors,...

Dr. Robert Rohde did an interesting thread about this on twitter yesterday.

Bottom line, I think there is ample theory & evidence that the reduction of maritime sulfur pollution is having a warming effort.

This warming may be regionally significant, but seems likely to be globally small, e.g. not more than a few years worth of global warming.

I personally feel we are at the point where somewhat drastic action is necessary.

Thanks for creating this community. I’d prefer an open discussion of science rather than pushing the UK perspective too hard. But I’m interested to see how this will organically work out.

GoodKingElliot,

I say start one. I don’t think it has to be limited to UK-centric content. I joined this instance because I live in the UK and I needed to join some Lemmy instance. But my interests are not limited to the UK. Maybe other people feel the same way.

DONE. I sent you private messages.

It seems to be a problem with ProtonVPN.

GoodKingElliot,
@GoodKingElliot@feddit.uk avatar

I have clarification from ProtonVPN about what the problem is with accessing Feddit.uk. They have a service called NetShield which blocks IP addresses associated with malware and trackers. There is a false positive for Feddit.uk. Their team is aware of it, and will hopefully fix it. In the meantime, people can access Feddit.uk using ProtonVPN by turning NetShield off. It works for me.

GoodKingElliot,
@GoodKingElliot@feddit.uk avatar

It’s an issue with NetShield. If you have NetShield off, you can access Feddit.uk. They seem to be working on a fix, though.

Even though it says Subscription Pending, you should effectively already be subscribed.

Well, I hope the Fediverse works out. Otherwise I think were gonna have to go back to hand printing zines.

While larger, more general communities are thriving on the Fediverse - I'm missing out on the niche communities

Gaming, news, tech, general literature. All of these are somewhat thriving, with a steady influx of posts and comments. At the same time, the userbase is sorely lacking for more niche communities. In my case it'd be stuff like poetry, yoga, religion, linguistics, meditation. Or many other communities I'd doubt they'd form a...

I joined a meditation Lemmy community. So far it was just one person posting once a day or so. But it was a start. If you or I joined and started making posts, we can be the seeds that nucleate the clouds and make rain.
