I know they roughly explained why, but it seems pretty insane they jumped the gun without having any of the users input and want people to go to another instance just for that community
You don’t have to move your account. You can subscribe to the other community on the other instance from your existing account. That’s the beauty of the Fediverse.
Is there a quick way to see what instances are federated with each other? I know for a while (and maybe still are) beehaw and Lemmy.ml defederated from Lemmy.world. Are they still defederated? Is it worthwhile to post on their communities if those users won’t see it?
Seeing as this conversation is going on everywhere right now, what’s the approach to Meta going to be here on UK? Personally I’m all for defederation as soon as possible, what does everyone else think?
Reddit just became a lot more friendly to bots, and a lot less friendly to humans. Their block list covered 144,926 bot accounts. All those and more are going to get unleashed.
The unintentional consequence of lowering sulphur content in marine fuel, as part of clean air regulations, is a weakened cooling effect caused by sulphur particles in ships’ exhaust fumes, according to a new model. This inadvertently exacerbates warming, potentially raising global temperatures by 0.05C by 2050. Other factors,...
Just opened a new pack of shield and it's hasn't got any scent at all. Either a crappy batch from the factory or this timeline has taken another dark turn for the worse....
Thanks for creating this community. I’d prefer an open discussion of science rather than pushing the UK perspective too hard. But I’m interested to see how this will organically work out.
I’ve got an itch to make one, but I suppose it wouldn’t strictly all be UK-centric content, although that’s not to say that UK doesn’t produce plenty of great science....
I say start one. I don’t think it has to be limited to UK-centric content. I joined this instance because I live in the UK and I needed to join some Lemmy instance. But my interests are not limited to the UK. Maybe other people feel the same way.
I have clarification from ProtonVPN about what the problem is with accessing Feddit.uk. They have a service called NetShield which blocks IP addresses associated with malware and trackers. There is a false positive for Feddit.uk. Their team is aware of it, and will hopefully fix it. In the meantime, people can access Feddit.uk using ProtonVPN by turning NetShield off. It works for me.

YouTube disallowing adblockers, Reddit charging for API usage, Twitter blocking non-registered users. These events happen almost at the same time. Is this one of the effects of the tech bubble burst?
Gaming, news, tech, general literature. All of these are somewhat thriving, with a steady influx of posts and comments. At the same time, the userbase is sorely lacking for more niche communities. In my case it'd be stuff like poetry, yoga, religion, linguistics, meditation. Or many other communities I'd doubt they'd form a...
I joined a meditation Lemmy community. So far it was just one person posting once a day or so. But it was a start. If you or I joined and started making posts, we can be the seeds that nucleate the clouds and make rain.

Did somebody say we had the hottest day in world history 2x this week? Did I get that right?

This genuinely put the shits up a few generations of Brits back at the tail end of the Cold War. Still gives me chills today.
Is there a quick ways to see changes in federation?

Welcome science community! What do you want to see here? What rules are we comfortable with?
Let’s use this thread to share ideas about the sidebar content: I think content guidelines are helpful, so I suggest:...
Do we want a science community?
I’ve got an itch to make one, but I suppose it wouldn’t strictly all be UK-centric content, although that’s not to say that UK doesn’t produce plenty of great science....
It appears that Feddit.uk blocks me when I try to access it via VPN. Do we really want to do that?
I was just trying to access Feddit.UK via a popular VPN. It looked like the site didn’t even exist. Just a gray error page....

Why all of a sudden tech companies are not being favorable to their users?
