I do a lot of photography and I share it on my deviant art page.

It’s SFW, don’t worry.

Anyone who has an ounce of integrity would be anti fascist and pro democracy.

In other words they would not support Russia or China.

NGL I think it should all brain chips should fall under “concerning” and “controversial”

The artificial eyes that existed in the past come to mind.

For those unfamiliar, when the companies that made them went under support for the devices vanished and the people who got them were left with broken and defunct hardware still stuck in their heads

Barred from his lab for releasing extremely useful info that helped the world because he didn’t seek approval from the government before he released the info.

FFS that’s terrible

The dude is a hero for releasing as soon as he could so that more people could have access to the sequence and begin research on vaccines that much faster.

Especially considering that most of the time you’ll sit on hold which can be awhile

If the company says “call” I ain’t even going to bother because my 30 minutes is more valuable to me than whatever price they could say 99.9% of the time

Gormadt,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Exactly

Reward the company that respects me enough to not waste my time

They got to weasel out of admitting wrong doing as part of the settlement?

What a joke

NGL “Hermit in a log cabin” sounds really nice

I’m an avid hiker personally

Especially in the local wilderness where I don’t get cell reception

It’s nice knowing that literally no matter how important somebody thinks their problem is they can’t reach me no matter how hard they try AND no matter how much my reflex is to check my email for “important” things that need taken care of I literally can’t check it.

Can we all agree that whatever version of predictive text we have nowadays is crap, and has been for a long time?

I’m sick of random capitalisations mid sentence. I’m sick of common words being replaced by less common ones or even downright nonsense. I’m sick of it taking three attempts to successfully get the word I want. I swear it’s been like this for five years or more. Can we have a better version yet, or at least the old one...

My favorite is how shitty voice to text has gotten over the last year as well

It’s literally only gotten worse

A few days ago I tried to use it to message a friend about something cool I saw at work and it sent them a random URL because at the end of a sentence it didn’t put a space it just started the next sentence

It’s becoming literally useless due to random shit like that

There’s more diseases than COVID that can fuck people up out there

Please wash your hands and keep at least a few feet back

I don’t need to feel your breath on my neck while we’re in line

Okay I think I’m following so far

And the whole “show stuff on screen” thing

I’m guessing it’s kinda like: you’ve got a couple people sitting there wanting to play with Legos and only so much room to play. They don’t have direct access to the play area because of security reasons so they have to ask someone to place the Legos for them. Wayland, X11, and Xorg are all different people they can talk to to place the Legos in a way where no one is fighting for space.

So basically it’s a new way for programs to negotiate who has what part of the screen?

I’m guessing Wayland is either more feature rich or lighter on resources and that’s why it’s a big deal?

Gormadt,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

The TLDR was really helpful NGL

So it’s software that handles software wanting to display things on the screen. Because having each piece of software do it itself would be not only chaos but a massive security concern. And it’s a big deal because it fixes (by replacing) the old software with something that’s easier to work with than the old ways of doing things (due to all new code that’s not spaghetti that’s hacked together over decades).

Am I close?

Gormadt,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

That’s really interesting and thank you

I think I’m beginning to get it now, and Wayland does sound better than X11 at least

Gormadt,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

What kinds of features does it gain and lose?

Gormadt,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Probably AI written

Gormadt,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Likewise

Which is part of why I’m thinking it was AI written

Gormadt,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

So true

This whole “social media” thing is pure brainrot

Especially places like twitter

Gormadt,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It has so much potential and yet we use it in such a terrible way and we’re steered to do so by corporations looking to exploit us for every last dollar

Gormadt,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I only ever seen it flip horizontal to unlock so I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary here

Personally I use Linux Mint on my other machine and Windows on my main PC

Before Windows 10 goes EoL I’m going to get my NAS running a Windows VM for Fusion 360 and Lightroom and my main rig will be on Linux Mint as well

I just need a need to finish my NAS rebuild to get everything rolling at full steam

Unfortunately that means I need to stop buying car parts first

Gormadt,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Unfortunately FreeCAD is not as featur e rich as Fusion 360

It’s getting closer but it’s not there yet
