Every accusation a confession with this malignant clown.

Unfortunately, renewables cannot do it alone

They absolutely can when paired with storage. Nuclear is not needed.

IchNichtenLichten,
@IchNichtenLichten@lemmy.world avatar

Only a fool would advocate for paying way more for nuclear when renewables + storage are substantially cheaper.

IchNichtenLichten,
@IchNichtenLichten@lemmy.world avatar

They don’t work well together. Nuclear needs to operate at as close to 100% uptime as possible, otherwise it isn’t financially viable. What happens when it’s very windy and sunny and renewables are creating more power than we need? You can’t just run nuclear to cover the peaks in demand, it doesn’t work that way.

Batteries of all kinds, compressed air, green hydrogen, pumped storage, flywheels, etc.

Is your contention that a combination of all the methods I listed is insufficient for a renewable future that doesn’t include nuclear?

IchNichtenLichten,
@IchNichtenLichten@lemmy.world avatar

over-build renewables, thereby making it extremely costly

Compared to nuclear? Go check out the cost and schedule overruns for Hinkley C and then talk to me about cost. $40 billion and counting so far.

It’s base load, not base line and we don’t have to have it.

It’s pretty obvious Maguire needs to move on. I hope it’s obvious to him too.

“Just asking questions”

Politics aside, of the few times I’ve heard him speak, he doesn’t seem too smart.

Sadly elections are a popularity contest so being an already known media personality is a massive head start over someone eminently qualified and capable, but unknown. If we have to pick a media personality, I’d go with Stewbeef.

Enlightened centrists are the worst. At least you know what you’re getting with republicans.

Wilholt’s law, “Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.”

Aka, “you’re not hurting the right people”

Sounds like libertarianism TBH.

No luck getting my Lemmy instance up and running, is this a good place to get some help?

I’m not exactly a linux beginner but I’m far from an expert and I could use some pointers. I have a domain and a VPS through Namecheap, I chose Ubuntu 20.04 LAMP and I’ve tried several guides to get this working but something always goes wrong sooner or later....

IchNichtenLichten,
@IchNichtenLichten@lemmy.world avatar

I did, and got further than with the other guides but I couldn’t get the Lemmy page to load and the log was complaining about certificate issues.

IchNichtenLichten,
@IchNichtenLichten@lemmy.world avatar

I hope we can both get this done :)
