Hi, Using radicale since I switched from next cloud, using dav5x on android pretty nicely....

Just thinking of ditching nextcloud and its just too much for my family use. All i needis carddav, caldav and file sync. Have a Debian VM running on Scale and was thinking of using Cloudron docker install. Is this the way others are installing on VMs?

For self-hosting though, the project I work on - Snikket - uses XMPP but has all the nice modern things you’d expect ready to go right out of the box, more like a Matrix (Synapse/Element) setup. The use case is basically so that all my family members we can check that “John has an old laptop collecting dust” or “Mary has this specific tool that I’d love to use for my current project”....

I recognize this will vary depending on how much you self-host, so I’m curious about the range of experiences from the few self-hosted things to the many self-hosted things....

I use nextcloud cookbook but I would really love another or a federated alternative. It does its job but I don’t think other people I know would use it.

I am a teacher and have students who speak many different languages. The most common ones are Chinese, Spanish and Portuguese, but we have other folks speaking other languages as well....
