Spanish guy, who likes open source software and has just discovered the fediverse (as of 28th of April, 2022). I like video games, and indie and retro music. I’m a student. I’m officially diagnosed with ADHD and ASD since January, 2023.

Ignacio,

I’m playing Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup (DCSS for friends), trying to get the Orb of Zot unsuccessfully.

My best runs so far are with a Minotaur, although a Gnoll is good too, more or less. The farthest I’ve arrived so far is Dungeon:12, and Orcish Mines:2 were nasty the two times I achieved to get into it.

how's your week going, Beehaw

hello Beehaw, it’s a sleepy morning–and i did not get very much sleep. luckily i have no social priorities so this is not a big deal. currently reading a number of books after completely crashing out of doing that for the entire month of June. i think i can get about 3 in before the end of the month, we’ll see

Ignacio,

Dealing with my executive dysfunction. I managed to study for 90 minutes this Monday morning, and I tried to continue that same afternoon, but I couldn’t do more than 30 minutes.

I need to put my head in order to avoid those situations, but I can’t.

Ignacio,

I want to study through my documents without feeling the tempation of playing doom, or watching some YouTube videos, or scrolling memes mindlessly on Kbin. Those thoughts lead me to perform those tasks. Having ADHD sucks.

Ignacio,

Turn-based games are better because you can have them opened without nothing happening in TTY2, for example, and doing serious tasks on TTY1. Doing that while playing Slime Rancher or GTA4 is really difficult, if not impossible.

Besides, main lack of turn-based console games is graphics and a deep history.

Ignacio,

I’ve never created other users besides the one that is created during installation. And I don’t know how restriction can be done.

I used browser plug-ins to restrict access to certain sites, but only for main domains, not for subdomains.

Ignacio,
  • Stellaris.
  • Rimworld.
  • Dwarf Fortress (Steam version).
  • Steamworld Dig 2.
  • The Talos Principle.
  • The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall.
  • The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind.
Ignacio,

Pages/Apps like Threads make me feel really insecure and insignificant, like my self esteem lost all its value and the only thing I want is to be relevant, to matter to people. And because those things are very difficult unless you’re a celebrity, it creates frustration, shattered dreams, more impatience, depression, and a deep feeling of irrelevance. I don’t want that in my life, especially being myself a neurodivergent person. My goal is to create relationships, not footmen.

Ignacio,

I think it’s a), but only because who has an Instagram account, automatically has a Threads account. There is no other way that 70 million people “joined” in just 3 days.

Ignacio,

Beehaw signed the fedipact. That makes defederation official.

Ignacio,

I’m about to finish the main campaign on Dungeon Keeper, and I’ve tried the New Game+ Campaign with KeeperFX. What a blast I had when I was a child.

Another reason to leave Reddit: I forgot how hostile it can be

I’ve mostly left reddit and switched to beehaw, but I posted on somewhat of a niche tech-related subreddit today since there really isn’t a community for that here yet. And wow, I got instantly downvoted twice and the first comment response was rude and hostile. All I posted was a feature suggestion for software that I...

Ignacio,

For reasons I already pointed out several times (and which I don’t mind pointing out again), I had severe anxiety and rejection sensitiveness when I wrote comments on Reddit, fearing their responses. Sometimes those fears were correct, and sometimes don’t, but the fact that I suffered those things was enough to feel myself in danger. Twitter, Reddit, all was the same shit regarding interaction with other people.

Since I joined the fediverse and became more active, those fears were lowering. That, and the fact that I’m taking medication for my ADHD. But a good environment and friendly human interaction help too.

I have a Raspberry Pi 400. What things can I do with it?

Hello. At the end of the last year, in October or November, I had this obsession or impulse to buy a Raspberry Pi. Don’t ask me why, because it was an ADHD thing of mine. Because I couldn’t find any Raspberry Pi 4 out there, I went to a Raspberry Pi 400, because it was the most similar device to a Pi 4. I was happy, I had a...

Ignacio,

I deleted my two year account two or three weeks ago. It was my second account, after a one year hiatus. 2,8K karma. most of it from comments. I posted most frequently on r/ADHD and on r/r4r.

Due to anxiety and rejection sensitive dysphoria, I almost never read any reply or private message after posting a comment on certain subreddits. I guess reddit was not a good site for undiagnosed/untreated ADHD & ASD people.

Things changed a lot since I joined Kbin and since I’m more active on Lemmy. I regret nothing.

I don't think we should strive to have as big a userbase as reddit.

Many of us have seen it happening in the last 4-5 years. reddit subs, and reddit in general has become a bit s***. Of course there are still good subs, especially the truly niche ones can often have a small helpful crowd. But with 100s of thousands of users, some sub drown in hate and negativity....

Ignacio,

My experience with Reddit agrees with everything you said. It's true that niche subreddits had very few posts through the day, but at least they hadn't overcrowded comments with nothing substantial to say. And engagement was easier, despite being Reddit and its karma fuckery.

It wasn't the same, for example, posting a meme on r/memes, with millions of users, or posting a meme on r/adhdmemes, with almost one hundred thousand users. And user mindset was also very different between them.

Yes, quality over quantity.

Do you have an account on the wider Fediverse beyond Lemmy or Kbin?

I migrated from Twitter to Mastodon when Elon Musk took over. It's been really nice, and I I wish I'd have known about the Fediverse before then. I may have found an instance that is too comfy and perfect for me, though... I've been tempted to migrate my account over to a Calckey instance, but there's no way that I'm not staying...

Ignacio, (edited )

I’ve accounts on Mastodon (first serious fediverse account*), PeerTube, Pixelfed, Funkwhale, Friendica (without content), Lemmy (both Beehaw and Sopuli), and Kbin.

*I had an account on Identi.ca 10 or more years ago, but the posts I read were too technical and logical to me at that time, so I stopped using it in favour of Twitter.
