JenTheWyvern,

Of course I know how to use a roundabout! Step one: close eyes Step two: floor it Step three: pray Works every time!

JenTheWyvern,

10% Lol But I’ve never watched Dragonball Z

JenTheWyvern,

Please! This is one of the things I miss from Reddit Boost. Sometimes I’m just tired of seeing a post.

A Steam Punk Pistol - 1896 Bittner (lemmy.world)

One of the very last, most common, and best looking of the Austrian manually operated pistols is the Bittner. Designed by Gustav Bittner in 1893 and going into production in 1896 (the known examples were proofed in 1897 and 1898)… Several hundred were made; possibly as many as 500. They were produced for the civilian market...

JenTheWyvern,

So it’s a manually cycled firearm, think of it more like a lever action rifle, where the lever is that big ring. As for the big follower, yeah box magazines weren’t completely figured out yet, and this thing took end bloc clips. Gotta remember this was over 120 years ago, and these were all still hand fitted firearms, so it would look a little silly to the modern eye.

King Louis XIII of France's Flintlock (1620s) (lemmy.world)

This fowling piece is one of the earliest firearms equiped with the flintlock of French construction. It was made for Louis XIII (reigned 1610–43) in the workshop directed by Pierre Le Bourgeois’ brother, Marin (about 1550–1634), to whom the invention of the flintlock mechanism is traditionally ascribed. The decoration of...

JenTheWyvern,

It’s crazy to think how long the flintlock reigned supreme.

JenTheWyvern,

I didn’t know that, that’s pretty funny. Gotta love human innovation sometimes.

JenTheWyvern,

Thank you for giving me justification for buying myself a fire axe!

JenTheWyvern,

Wow what an amazing piece of history. I’m glad she survived with her art intact. They even reunited!

JenTheWyvern, (edited )

I’m fairly certain those are Berthier rifles, it would go with the French helmets, and 1915 Chauchat. I think I can even make out the aluminum handles on the bayonet.

What item have you been using on a daily basis for the longest amount of time?

Sometimes I will use something and realize I’ve owned it forever. It’s a nice change in our throwaway reality. I think my personal record is a bicycle multi-tool I got for one of my first bikes, ~25 years ago. Still have it, still use it. When it comes to electronic devices I have a Panasonic mini Hi-Fi from ~2005. Never...

JenTheWyvern,

I have a Parker Pen I bought with my first paycheck in 2011. I’ve replaced the ink cartridge several times, but the pen is still going strong. I use it everyday at work, and it got me through High school and College.

JenTheWyvern,

I picked up a pair of Sennheisers from a thrift store a couple years back. They sound amazing and the cord is replaceable! I love them.
