I'll be watching the Eurovision final on Saturday. I've been reluctant to post this in case I get jumped on. but yeah. I'll probably be posting about it.
I'll use content warnings and hashtags. feel free to mute or block, whatever you see fit.

FM synth go womp womp

KaraLG84,

@talon did you use the Ableton live metronome as an instrument in that?

@talon And sidechain go pump pump. :)

@talon Ah I see.

Hey if Sonos can just up and screw their UI then I can just up and decide to never use them for future speakers. Time to check the resale value of this garbage in case they can't fix the UI accessibility like yesterday.

@simon @talon It seems like some sighted people aren't too impressed with the update either according to a review. you can't search your music.

giving the latest version of JAWS a spin since I plan to update the JAWS to NVDA guide for the next version.
I keep doing NVDA commands and wondering why it's not working.

KaraLG84,
@KaraLG84@dragonscave.space avatar

I'm not a fan of how JAWS handles punctuation. I forgot that it doesn't pause for things like dashes and parentheses.
I don't want to turn this into a JAWS bashing thread so this is my last word on it.

KaraLG84,
@KaraLG84@dragonscave.space avatar

@menelion Ah. I was using Eloquence

KaraLG84,
@KaraLG84@dragonscave.space avatar

Having a look through JAWS' Settings Centre. This isn't bashing as such, but I think they really need to do some spring cleaning.
They still have the option "Allow wave files with software synthesisers", which only made any difference in the bad old days of single channel sound cards. The help text for it reads:
Select this check box to enable smoother playing of WAV files when using the DEC Talk Access 32 software synthesizer. This option is only available in Default.jcf. Changes to this setting take effect the next time you start JAWS. It is cleared by default."

I just tried Sharky, the voice assistant thing. I wonder if anyone uses it regularly.

KaraLG84,
@KaraLG84@dragonscave.space avatar

In the app for installing Vocaliser voices, the samples Freedom Scientific recorded for the Brazilian Portuguese ones are them reading English text. So it says something like "My name is felipe and I am a Brazilian Portuguese voice..." lol

KaraLG84,
@KaraLG84@dragonscave.space avatar

@menelion Thanks. Also maybe tell them that some of the voice samples are just them reading the numbers 1 to 10,, which I guess isn't good enough to see what they soundd like.

I tried that neural voices NVDA add-on out of curiosity. I didn't think it'd work on 'windows 10, but it does since the add-on includes the voice data.
I doubt that's legal but it is what it is.

KaraLG84,
@KaraLG84@dragonscave.space avatar

It's the first sample based speech synthesiser I've heard in a while that knows the difference between exclamation marks and full stops.

KaraLG84,
@KaraLG84@dragonscave.space avatar

It says the Conrad voice is standard German but I don't think it is. it says 3 like either doe or door.

KaraLG84,
@KaraLG84@dragonscave.space avatar

@zersiax I love how those voices try to read English with English rules, so it sounds like someone reading it with a strong accent.

@talon Welcome back. I wondered where you've been.

KaraLG84,

@talon I don't post general stuff on here about what I'm doing as much as I used to. I think it's happened since I started regularly keeping a diary

KaraLG84,
@KaraLG84@dragonscave.space avatar

@talon That's a neat way of doing it. I just ramble into Notepad.

With apologies for any misspelling, does anyone know what ever happened to Ali Al-Hajamy? A blind person I followed on Twitter and a couple of other places, seemed to adore reading and literature above all else.

KaraLG84,
@KaraLG84@dragonscave.space avatar

@simon @jscholes I don't know who this is but I wonder if they're related to @MutedTrampet.

I all but gave up on online voice chatting about a year ago, except in a few trusted communities. Sometimes I consider coming back, and then I remember all the stress and awkwardness I felt and push the thought away.

KaraLG84,
@KaraLG84@dragonscave.space avatar

@TheQuinbox @MutedTrampet These days there's only one person I regularly voice chat with, and a couple that I talk to once in a while. They're all sighted.

@datajake1999 I've found this page on the wayback Machine that linked to a lot of Artic Technologies downloads, including demos of WinVision. It appears that a lot of the files it links to were also archived.

Wanted a command I could type super quickly to get my OS version on Linux, and came up with this after about 5 minutes. I just have
function osver() {
cat /etc/os-release | grep PRETTY_NAME= | cut -d'=' -f2- | tr -d '"'
}
in my .bash_profile and it all works.

KaraLG84,
@KaraLG84@dragonscave.space avatar

@TheQuinbox I've already forgotten what that even is.
