So I’ve thought about that too, but it’s not just space or time, it’s spacetime. One could argue that it’s impossible to travel through time without traveling through space, and so you would end up going back to where things were in both senses. Of course, that’s just handwavium to make time travel work, since time travel isn’t possible anyway.
I would say that while the show does a fantastic job of bringing the books to the screen, it misses the interpersonal intimacy that makes the book series so fantastic. The plots are cool, but at its core, The Expanse is really about its characters. If you like to read or listen to audio books, I HIGHLY recommend them. A big part of where the show fails, is it was impossible for them to tell the story and also deal with the internal dialogues of each character. In the books, every chapter is told from the point of view of a specific character, so you get to know their inner thoughts and feelings on an extremely personal level.
This is one of those series where I will tell someone that if they read the books and enjoyed them, they would enjoy the show - and vice-versa. That said, if you didn’t enjoy the show for the reasons you stated, and you’re willing to give it a go, I think you’ll probably enjoy the books.
they could make their own custom version of the fediverse, slowly diverging from the core open source version, then push the actual fediverse into obscurity, the same way Google Chat killed XMPP. Imagine a new Meta-controlled “fediverse” where you can only have an instance if you use their code and their rules.
There is no chance a Meta version of an instance will do anything to make its users aware of alternatives. That’s beyond wishful thinking. Instead they’ll leverage the work done by others to make a walled garden for their users.
No, of course not. You didn’t have to use Google chat either, but here we are. I never used it but ICQ is still dead. My point is that the billion dollar companies have more power than just making instances. Once their instances have features that the rest of the fediverse doesn’t, people will be motivated to use their version instead because “it’s more convenient and I can talk to my friends.”
I love that this is the flagship viral post for the new popular Lemmy. At this point, OP’s reason for not pooping is tertiary to the entertainment! Also, I’m pretty sure it’s just social anxiety.
They want to force children into the labor pool. Can't afford to eat? Get a job Timmy! Oh and by the way if you don't pay your school lunch debt, we're calling CPS and taking you away from your parents. So get to work!
I think that the whole point of federation is that you, the end user, have the option of choosing where you want to go. You want to use those other instances, nobody is stopping you. You can actually use as many as you want. The instance owner gets to choose what is displayed on their instance, and that's OK as well. You even have the option of making your very own instance and displaying everything from everywhere. Nobody is dictating what you can or can't see. They're just choosing not to be the ones to show it to you.
I really don't. But whenever I pick up an Apple product I feel like it was made for a dumb monkey and I feel stupider for using it. I personally miss Blackberry.
I often think about stellar albums. The ones where they're really isn't a skip-able track. Off the top of my head, these come to mind: The Beach Boys Pet Sounds, Collective Soul Collective Soul (blue album), Bush 16 Stone, and Green Day Dookie. What are some of your perfect albums?

There obviously more work to be done and I love that Chicago is so far ahead of so many cities when it comes to bicycle infrastructure.
