did htcm for the first time ever today, completely blind, and got to saltspray in less than 30 minutes lol

granted i was doing it with a good static so its not all me but it feels good not being dead weight lol

@pixel the difference that fight has between static runs and majority progression is wild. If you like the progression feeling it is really pretty nice, but there are a lot of mechanics that experienced portals, quickness and kiters just make disappear (seemingly)!

@pixel I think Vindi is in a pretty good place at the moment on HT CM and it always has the specialist role of bubble for the purification phases and Zhaitan poisons if needed.

It's such a weird fight in general since my advice would be not to care about CC as a boss DPS - CC is for your alac kiters, quickness and one portal. Burst and cleave does matter as a DPS though, so go with what works best for you to do that!

(weird fight gets advice that would be weird anywhere else!)

@pixel the prog is part of the fun though, even if it is super slow! One of my groups finally got there after a few months of maybe run one for an hour and a half every two weeks (if we were lucky!).

Make the time for it and enjoy the wipes to Primordus' chin and Mordremoth jumps 😌

@pixel the best ever bit of advice I received while learning HT CM is to avoid the urge to try and cover other roles, both in terms of build and gameplay. It kind of goes against what one would expect from Guild Wars 2 but it's really accurate especially since so many runs can be lost quite late into the encounter where doing specific things is important.

48k on Jormag is very nice! Numbers! Hopefully a good sign for Saltspray and Champion burst!

@pixel yeah it is really a commitment and the encounter itself is buggy and not brilliantly designed imo but it's about the only thing offering a proper sense of progression in Guild Wars 2 so I think it's worth making some time to check out and see if you want to commit!

It will definitely happen for you at some point though, either which way! I think community experience and knowledge is growing enough to support that.

Kind of anxious about the upcoming patch on the 26th, since they've not released any information about it and I'd really not like to see my characters have their builds ruined again, when I've been playing those same setups for 6+ years (or since 2014, in the case of one they outright removed. Again).

I just want to enjoy the game, not be worried that my characters will get progressively worse for seemingly no reason other than "but raiding."

@itspomf In addition to what @pixel has noted, the other thing to keep in mind is that builds, generally, get better over time.

It is rare for things to be made obsolete (RIP condi Deadeye) and often the balance changes that make something less effective are done with PvP in mind.

However, we've come an awful long way from the days of only a few viable supports, professions with only one damage type and massive damage disparities between what is viable and what isn't.

I'd expect some nerfs with the patch today, since there is a proper balance patch scheduled for October.

Then we've got some new things to look forward to with the additional weapons and that might spark some new joy!

@pixel @itspomf Many of the major SA changes over the years have been due to PvP issues - things like ghost condi thief in WvW or perma stealth Deadeye. When there is a rework for those builds, some PvE stuff tends to be tacked on to a couple of traits which is the case with Shielding Restoration and Shadow Savior.

The biggest sin with Thief is of course the removal of Ricochet. That one still stings.

@pixel @itspomf I think enabling healing-centric Thief builds was a happy accident and mainly as a result of Specter. There wasn't any serious way to heal with Thief back in 2019 when the SA changes were made but there was a lot of consternation around WvW especially.

I am hopeful for a happy accident with the new weapons!

I earned Fractal God last night. Took two years of hilariously infrequent play.

@massivelyop it's been really quite good! The writing and story in this expansion is phenomenal and such an improvement over previous expansions and living story.

I'm pining for the Strike CMs already though...
