Just wanted to add that OpenSUSE MicroOS uses Tumbleweed repos by default, so I’m fairly sure that’s an atomic rolling release too. Not 100% sure, though.

I can’t believe they’re remastering Combat Evolved again, but not Halo 3.

Well, as long as they do a better job than the original CE Anniversary, I’ll probably play it.

I tend to agree, but it would be nice to play with the nice, rich visuals of Halo 2 Anniversary. And not have to look at Lord Hood’s craggy visage or the slightly polygonal Marine heads.

Reach, on the other hand: no remaster would improve how that game looks. Still a stunning bit of work all these years later.

The web editor is VERY promising so far, but it’s still in early alpha stages.

How are you supposed to become an advanced user, then?

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

My point was that you can’t be an advanced user without first being a non-advanced user

(and side note, I’ve been using Linux for over 20 years on and off… still use Nano)

Is there a source for this? I have a WordPress blog but been tempted to switch to a different platform due to bloat.

Thanks. Looks like it’s only affecting Wordpress.com for now. We’ll see if it trickles down to .org too

Linux on old School Machines?

Hi all, the private school I work at has a tonne of old windows 7/8 era desktops in a student library. The place really needs upgrades but they never seem to prioritise replacing these machines. Ive installed Linux on some older laptops of mine and was wondering if you all think it would be worth throwing a light Linux distro on...

Why not? It would help massively with the ‘affordable’ criterion

Might be worth trying to find a refurbished HP ProLiant MicroServer. There are a few on eBay UK within the £200-400 range. You can sometimes find professionally refurbished units as well.

Windows 95 -> 98 -> SuSE …9? -> XP -> Ubuntu 10 -> Windows 7 -> Windows 10 (alongside a bunch of Debian servers) -> MX Linux -> Debian

Also went Windows 10 -> Kubuntu -> VanillaOS -> Kinoite on my laptop for what it’s worth.

I liked GLIDE, which was suggested a few years ago, though I can’t remember what the acronym was now

The trouble I have with Sunshine is that when I play, I wish I was playing SM64

Genuinely couldn’t be bothered with Odyssey after a while. That was a game with just too much to do

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

It’s more about feeling. The platforming feels crisp, the levels feel the right size, the controls feel responsive. No other Mario game has quite matched SM64’s mobility, not even my beloved Galaxy games

I’ve always been curious how people greeted each other before “hello”. Did we just say “good day” and variations thereof?

LunarLoony,

Well met!

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Are they the elves that say “hi”?

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I didn’t know that about ‘goodbye’! Words are fascinating, huh.

I believe “hello” itself was more of an exclamation (like “hi”, in fact) and supposedly comes from the Dutch “hollo”. Some people in the UK still use it as such, in fact.

I'm really annoyed by how much Brave Search is pushing AI

I’ve been using Brave Search supplemented by Startpage for the past 2+ years. When I search for something, I want to get results for credible webpages, not a summary of unknown quality. I liked the previous AI inclusion because it was instant, didn’t take up much space, and I could quickly navigate to the websites referenced...

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

At the risk of seeming to throw shade; why use Brave at all if you’re going to switch off all its unique features?

@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

As a fellow FP5 user, I haven’t come across the issues you’ve mentioned - that said, I did install /e/os pretty much immediately, so perhaps that’s why.
