Gaming is less stable overall but it's exponentially better now thanks to Valve and the Steam Deck driving support. Like seriously, from a cointoss whether it even launches a couple years ago to 74% Gold or Platinum on the top 1000 games on Steam.
Programming is easier (you can ask your commandline to install all you need at once instead of having to painstakingly individually install and set up requirements or addons to programming languages), but you don't have access to Visual Studio if you're working on C# or C++.
Web browsing is identical, watching movies too.
Photoshop, Premiere, etc are a pain to get good replacements for, OBS for recording and DaVinci Resolve for editing is a really powerful pair though.
I vouch for Mint with XFCE too. It was very fast on my laptop and some of the themes now are pretty. It barely uses any RAM. It has a Windows-style start menu and taskbar.
Just be warned that your family members will probably have (usually solvable) issues if they want to do anything beyond web browsing. It's a different operating system after all and it works differently in a lot of ways. Definitely recommend looking up some videos about Mint, XFCE, transitioning from Windows to Linux.

The article tries to link the defence budget of the US to stuff like the gutting of BBB and decreasing access to food stamps. But in reality they're not linked. They're using the pre-defined arms budget of the state and dedicating it to funding the Ukrainian Armed Forces. There is no F-16 being delivered that could have been used to feed a person in the US or vice versa. First time I've heard of "Belograd" as well, maybe the author meant Belgorod hehe.
Another scenario would be if Ukraine does in fact lose - and at this point, it is looking likely - that Washington can attribute their loss to Kiev’s inability to take their advice.
Very interesting assessment. They trained 9 new brigades for this counteroffensive and are committing a minimal force at the moment. I don't understand the demographic they're trying to capture with this article, it just seems a bit silly. If there's no visible progress by September and with a much greater dedicated force than now then sure I think we should worry; the war is far from over and there is a dangerous road ahead for Ukraine.
I've never played any of the Diablos, or met anyone who has. But they are obviously popular for a reason. Are they worth going back to the first one?...
Also a lot of people feel that it's more free-to-try rather than free-to-play because of the inventory restrictions in the later game. Every new in-game activity currency they bring out is more incentive for you to buy inventory tabs. So maybe $30 USD investment to properly experience the game later down the line. Still cheaper than full price Diablo 4 but definitely worth keeping in mind.
Or Poland's PiS party and their anti-democratic partisan judge nominations and the currently ongoing attempted elimination of the largest opposition party through McCarthyism.
Depressing walking past the newly-built housing that is out of reach for almost all of us. Family member lived in a modest apartment with their partner in 2019. They moved out, we check it now years later, it's almost twice as expensive per month to rent.
For me it was minesweeper clones. I got frustrated one day and decided to learn how to be good at minesweeper. After beating the medium and large boards a couple times I looked on Steam for minesweeper versions, and turns out there's a whole genre of clones. Some of them are direct clones of the game, while others are very...
Unpopular? That's the word you'd use to describe Ukraine surrendering? Just "unpopular"? Putin rejected the (ostensibly) real goal of Ukraine being barred from NATO before the war even started in order to seek out deeper goals and political control. Then he ran the independence referenda in the Russian-army-occupied settlements, that claimed "independence" over the entire regions (a large chunk of which Russia didn't even control).
Those referenda are currently a part of Putin's non-negotiables for a peace deal. So then why would you ever characterise it as Ukraine bringing it on themselves? That they're the ones who aren't being serious about negotiations? Are they "prolonging" the war for fun? I hope you don't actually buy this and it's just a contrarian bit.
