Panda,

Not sure about the upcoming months but I felt like 2024 started off with quite a few games coming out one after another, including Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth, Helldivers 2, Last Epoch and Dragon’s Dogma 2.

And Manor Lords is coming out this month as well.

Crunchy audio coming through some Proton games on desktop but not on Steam Deck

Hi, folks. A bit of an unusual problem here. In some Proton games, in semi-predictable places, I’ll get this audio crunch noise. It’s not deafeningly loud or anything, but it is distracting sometimes. I first heard it when playing Starfield, and it was most common when loading into a city environment. This crunchy audio...

Panda,

I’ve been experiencing something similar lately and what I found helps is to go to your audio settings in your OS and change the audio output device to something else and then change it back to the correct one. If it doesn’t work the first try, try again.

I hope that helps. It works for me. I never had this issue until recently. It’s really annoying. :-/

Panda,

I’m on POP!_OS. I’m sorry to hear it doesn’t fix it. :( I wonder if a recent update caused this.

Panda,

Wakestones aren’t too hard to get though.

Panda,

I do wish they could give an ETA because the ‘near future’ could be anywhere between a week, a month or perhaps even longer.

However, I did read in an article that they plan to release a patch later this week, so hopefully it’ll be released soon?

Are you going to preorder Dragon's Dogma 2 or wait for reviews?

I’m super excited about Dragon’s Dogma 2, but because many games these days launch not living up to what was promised or with performance issues, and the fact that games seem to be getting more and more expensive, I’m a bit wary of getting a big game at full price at launch....

Panda,

I agree! Are you planning to get it on release day or are you going to wait a bit longer?

Panda,

It used to make sense with physical copies if one wanted to be able to play on release day, but with a digital product there isn’t really a point.

Panda,

True! Or perhaps a preorder bonus (digital).

Are you planning on getting Dragon’s Dogma 2 on release day?

Panda,

I’ve been playing it and having fun, though the closer we get to release of the sequel (and the more preview/sneak peek videos I’ve watched) the more I really just want to play the sequel. It looks so good! And yeah I did notice that about the pawns. It’s nice to see it’s still being actively played!

The One Save Debate

Some gamers are upset that this is only one save file per account. I'm sure this is done because of the very unique Pawn system. One pawn per account is uploaded to the pawn server. Pawns are very complicated. They learn about monsters, quests, and bring back items for us. I don't have any issue with this. In the first Dragon's...

Panda,

What I’d really like to see is one save per character instead of one per account. Even though with one save I’m still worried my save file might become corrupted at some point. But aside from that, I’m okay with one save per character but not one save per account.

Panda,

Yikes! Does anyone know what happened?

Panda,

I was wondering why it looked different from some of the screenshots I see here but when I play on mobile it’s just an endless list that gets bigger and requires a lot of scrolling. Switched my browser to desktop mode and now I can see you can drag and drop stuff. These types of games are so simple but so addicting. Ahhh

Panda,

Ugh I hate those ads. I had a OnePlus for a few years and forgot about all the bloat you get with a Samsung phone. Recently decided to go for a Samsung phone as the other options didn’t seem much better. But now I keep getting ads from Google and Samsung in my notifications. I THINK I managed to disable some of it but it still keeps popping up once in a while.

Panda,

Thanks for the tip! Checking it out right now. Does it also work if my mobile carrier isn’t on the list?

Panda,

I’d recommend POP!_OS. Very easy to install and use and most games I’ve tried to play work without any problems.

Panda,

I’ve been told what it means yet every time I see it my brain goes “for the…” and I can’t figure out the last 2 letters. And I have to look it up to be reminded that it means “fixed that for you”. But every time I forget and I have to look it up again.

Panda,

Play games on GeForce NOW at a higher resolution than 1080p. :-/

Panda,

Ugh I hate that with YouTube ads as well (at least on my Android TV). I’ll watch something, get interrupted by ads, sometimes minutes long and/or multiple ads, and after the ad(s) it jumps seconds or even minutes ahead from where I was watching. Then when I rewind to the point I was at it’ll often play even more ads. It’s super annoying but if they think this convinces me to buy their premium subscription they’re very wrong. It’s so off-putting.

Panda,

I really like it so far, especially with the new apps. I’m using Boost and I honestly can’t tell the difference between this and the old Boost for Reddit. The transition is really smooth. Oh, and everything on Lemmy feels very intuitive and the people seem less toxic.

And Mastodon…I really like it. I’ll post something with the right hashtags and suddenly there’s a conversation between a bunch of people with the same interests that goes on for weeks!

Panda,

Yeah there’s an option in the settings called Remove Ads. The problem is, that option isn’t working for me. When I tap that option all I get is a screen with the Boost logo and the text Remove Ads below it and that’s it.

Panda,

If this gets added I hope it’s optional, because I really don’t like it. I came across this feature in several Lemmy apps and and almost every time I scroll vertically the app registers it as scrolling horizontally and suddenly I’m up- or downvoting or even bookmarking a random comment.

Panda,

Slay The Spire and Monster Train are both very good, but often recommended. Other card games that are worth checking out: Gordian Quest, Vault of The Void and Across The Obelisk! The latter is a lot of fun when playing sigh up to 3 friends but it’s good as a singleplayer game as well!
