Brisbane is leading the country in the cost-of-living crisis with the highest rent, energy, health and insurance price hikes in the past year, according to a report by the Queensland Council of Social Service (QCOSS)....
Insurance is going to keep going up with more and more natural disasters, either directly or indirectly caused by climate change.
Housing, not enough to go around? Social housing investment? Tax empty dwellings? Rent freezes and or caps?
Energy for home owners can be offset, albeit with a large upfront cost, solar and battery. Renters though? Queensland plan for renewable energy grid might help, but how far off is that? Can the government even take ownership of the grid?
Health. This one annoys me. From my understanding, the Liberals effectively froze the price of Medicare rebates, causing more and more doctors to go mixed billing or no bulk billing at all. People unable to afford this, go to hospital emergency rooms, clogging them up for people that really need. But I can’t blame them, cause what else can they do?
This is just me ranting. Some or all of this might not be true, so take with a grain of salt.
I have battery power motorised blinds. About a month ago, one of them stopped holding a charge. No problem, just keep it plugged in all the time, I thought. When I opened them yesterday, I noticed a swarm of ants on one of the windows and blind. Where did these buggers come from?
After I cleaned the swarm up, I inspected the blind. I noticed that the ants were still appearing around it. So I take the blind down. I pull the motorised end out of the aluminium tube. There I found, an entire colony of ants, nesting on and inside the motor, and down the metre long tube.
Suffice to say, I think I found the cause of why the battery no longer charged.
I typically water my plants in the afternoon, around 5pm. In this case, I gave everything a good soak the day before.
I have found that this plant in particular doesn’t enjoy too much sunlight, so that’s why I have it hiding down the side my house. Didn’t help this time.
Got a single large rain drop on my windscreen driving home, but that was about it. Heard the thunder though, was expecting to get smashed by the storm.
Is anything about the first landings on Australia even taught in school? Refusing to educate the population on the matter will probably continue to be a huge hurdle.
