Thanks for checking out the video!

The connector is what is known as a video synthesizer. You connect two analog video sources (VCR, PS2, anything with the old yellow video cables) that then connect to the potentiometers in the synth. These control the strength of the video signals coming through so you can blend them how you’d like.

On the synth are switches for different effects and blend modes, these allow for different types of modulation of the signal which the builder of the synth has preset. The knobs then allow you to adjust the strength of each source coming through as well as the strength of the effect that youre working in.

If you check out Etsy there are a few different video synth/modulator builders around. People tend to use these for live shows for visual effects so there is a scale of what you can get too. The one that im using from decaying electronics is really basic with 3 modes and 2 knobs, some have a ton more if you want to get real fancy.

As for tv compatibility, some CRTs will cut the feed if the signal gets too wonky but some will power through whatever you signal you throw at it. If you give it a try and the feed keeps cutting, try just running one source through the synth and add from there to find it’s limit.

Hope I was able to answer some of your question!

Thank you!

Thank you! This is what you are looking at, but this one was taken on a karaoke machine with a CRT in it.

Close! No magnets though

Crossing two video signals through potentiometers and capturing the image with a camera. I then mirror the image into patterns.

Here’s a video I put together the other day showing a bit of the process

Lol cathode magic, won’t you stay and have a look around? :)

So I take two media sources that will blend to create some cool colors and shapes, I set up my camera in front of the CRT and capture whats on the screen. I then take those images and mirror them.

With the TV already putting off those clean lines between the lights, it gives that neat effect like it’s all connected through the mirroring process. I’ll see shapes and patterns develop as I go and work the image around them.

Not at all, glad you enjoy them!

Thanks for checking it out, it’s a process I came up with. I clean out houses for a job so I’m always coming across old tvs and thought of ways I can use them instead of watching this finite tech waste away and get tossed.

I told someone a couple months ago I would make a video when this hit 100 subscribers and I think it’s pretty close so Ill make a post later today showing the process visually.

But in case you miss it, I take that original, mirror it sometimes over 10 times. Each mirror will add or remove shapes and patterns so it all depends on how you work it with each addition or reduction.
