How do I change desktop environments on linux mint?

I am not a fan of cinnamon and i’d like to try gnome or kde plasma. i have heard great things about both and i tried gnome before, but i really hated how it worked with linux mint (particularly that it replaced the login screen with that of the ubuntu login). is there a way to avoid that? any other general tips? thank you...

When installing gnome using apt it should prompt you at some point which display manager (aka login screen) you want to use. Just choose the one that’s not gdm and your login screen wont change. Generally its easy to install a new desktop. Just do “sudo apt install the_desktop_environment” and change the chosen desktop environment on your login screen when logging in (there should be some slider or button for that).

New spam wave?

There seems to be a wave of accounts from this instance spamming/brigading comments everywhere. I know one of them @cobson has been spamming already. But now there is another spamming pictures of checks notes nikocado avocado’s anus everywhere. soot@lemmy.blahaj.zone (check profile and comment history at your own risk)....

The law was “force-passed” in the national assembly using article 49.3 (no wikipedia article in english but tldr the government can force-pass some texts at the national assembly using it) and the protests about pension sort of died down, people moved on and other events happened like the killing of Nahel by the police that sparked other movements, but its a whole other rabbithole.
