Sunny,

What app are you using?

Sunny,

Thanks for asking, some of my favs are:

Sunny,

I use the Photon web UI, so its listed at the top of the community nav bar. Photon is really quite neat :)

If your instance supports it, then you can browse to: photon.INSTANCE.tld

Sunny,

This lad has some really well explained videos, hands down one of the better nix content creators I’ve found so far at least 🌻

Sunny,

I’m struggling to see it being a reason to change the Linux mascot? I’m not criticizing, just curious to there being a reason as to why it needs to be changed at all? I’m new to the Linux space, so please fill me in if there is anything I’m missing here, but what’s wrong with the already universally adopted penguin?

Sunny,

Maaan am I gullible and naive hahah, that was like a honeypot and I fell right into it! :P

Sunny,

So this is actually the current setup, minus the WiFi extender. However it’s not very practical for us, as one of the phones would have to be left in one location at all times and this signal isn’t strong enough to emit throughoyt the whole whose, because of the very thick walls and floors. A WiFi extender could help here indeed, but it would go down again each time that phone leaves the house etc… Looking for a more permanent and practical solution, but thanks for you suggestion!

Sunny,

Thank you very much, I’ll check em out!

Sunny,

The WiFi also wouldn’t be great throughout the house without multiple extenders too sadly. It’s a big house and has very thick walls and floors.

Sunny,

This is probably the way to go indeed, I’ll have a look into the different pre-paid options with my current provider and find a suitable external antenna. Thanks for your input!

Thoughts on Guard.io as a service for lesser tech savvy family members?

Hi there, So just watched latest video of Jim Browning and in the video he had a sponsor I had not heard about before, Guard.io. So I went to check it out, and it seems like a fairly decent service (by that I mean, a service I would put on family members devices) for helping against possible phishing attempt and general...

Sunny,

Hmm, I agree that it’s not the best advertising in the world. But also they are closed source, so I guess it can never truly be trusted. Question that really remains is: is it better to use them than to not use them, for lesser tech savvy peeps.

Sunny,

Fair enough, thanks 😊

Sunny,

I personally use nextDNS, and love it. However my setup is too strict for their use cases and blocks newspapers and stuff they read. I also don’t feel comfortable logging their devices. I guess I could spin up a few more nextDNS accounts for them on the free plan instead though, that’s probably what I should do.

Sunny,

As another comment said, through DoT and DoH. Also newly registered links (30days) are blocked by default (at least with my nextDNS settings). I was however mixing up, thinking Mullvad would do the same… I should probably make a nextDNS profile for each member in family.

Sunny,

Hold on, is that possible in nextDNS? Never seen that option before.

Sunny,

I alos pay, but have completely missed this feature hehe. Thanks for pointing this out, completely solves this issue for me 🙌

Sunny,

This could also be a weekly engagement thing, but from the users? For example, a weekly thread called “This Week’s Discovery”. And then people can suggest their findings and share experiences.

Sunny,

I wasn’t 🙃

Sunny,

I was referring to pop-ups about family plans and black Friday sale button actually. Wasn’t possible to remove these, and I was already a paying member… I have however not seen these in a while, so maybe they took a hint after getting some backlash.
