TheBurlapBandit,

My astronomy professor was fired for being a massive anti-semite and general rightoid

Shoulda seen it coming when he talked about the possibility of forests on Mars based on his own comparison of satellite photography

TheBurlapBandit,

I really don’t think spending extra time sitting through half assed foreplay is going to do the human race any favors.

What non-FOSS software are you using that you wish you could replace?

For me its honestly a ton of my work software (digital forensics), shit is too niche to be replaced by good FOSS options. Cellebrite, Magnet Axiom, etc. Autopsy is great and free and has a linux version but it simply cannot get the same level of data without a pretty nutty level of custom code....

TheBurlapBandit,

Adobe After Effects. Despite being an unstable spaghetti code nightmare, there is no other viable option for professional motion graphics designers.

TheBurlapBandit,

Do you exercise regularly? Physical exertion can help you feel tired at the end of the day.

TheBurlapBandit,

There were plenty of people with blue hair lmao what are you on

Or are you using blue hair as an alt right dogwhistle?

‘It’s destroyed me completely’: Kenyan moderators decry toll of training of AI models (www.theguardian.com)

Employees say they weren’t adequately warned about the brutality of some of the text and images they would be tasked with reviewing, and were offered no or inadequate psychological support. Workers were paid between $1.46 and $3.74 an hour, according to a Sama spokesperson.

TheBurlapBandit,

AI is about at creative as Adobe Photoshop is, or a pencil for that matter. A human operating it (no, not txt2img prompting) is where the creativity comes from.

TheBurlapBandit,

Nah it’s fine here. Best not to split content on an already small platform.

TheBurlapBandit,

Nothing burger. It’s like calling a crayon racist because it’s only one color.

TheBurlapBandit,

That billionaire doing the right thing is going to force the same lifestyle changes anyway. Meat tycoon shuts down operations. Now no meat is available for purchase- vegan is the only option. Coal plants shut down. Blackout hours are enforced while battery infrastructure catches up. Auto makers shut down operations. Public transit is clogged until capacity increases, more people start biking. Airlines drastically cut available flights. No long distance travel for you until high speed rail can be built. Shipping magnates vessels are decommissioned. Many goods are either more expensive or entirely unavailable.

TheBurlapBandit,

Look up projected casualties for Operation Downfall

TheBurlapBandit,

Ants is a pretty apt comparison to Japanese culture at the time. All expected to become soldiers and die for the hive. Seriously, shit was crazy. They were not going to surrender otherwise.

Firebombings were daily killing more than the bombs did as well.

TheBurlapBandit, (edited )

I mean… That’s what the culture was at the time. No need to name call over it. It is well documented and any attempt to obfuscate it is revisionism.

Our discussion is prompting me to look more into the history here, though. Your comment on modern generals’ statements is intriguing. That lead me to learn about Soviet entry into the war, defeating Japan in Manchuria, which may have promoted talk of surrender among Japanese leadership.

I’ll certainly keep researching and I’m open to changing my view. Feel free to present me with some material to consider rather than calling me racist.

Greg Rutkowski Was Removed From Stable Diffusion, But AI Artists Brought Him Back - Decrypt (decrypt.co)

Greg Rutkowski, a digital artist known for his surreal style, opposes AI art but his name and style have been frequently used by AI art generators without his consent. In response, Stable Diffusion removed his work from their dataset in version 2.0. However, the community has now created a tool to emulate Rutkowski’s style...

TheBurlapBandit,

It’s not smart or stupid. It does what it’s been trained on, nothing more.

TheBurlapBandit,

Me, I’ll benefit the most. I’ve been using a locally running instance of the free and open source AI software Stable Diffusion to generate artwork for my D&D campaigns and they’ve never looked more beautiful!

TheBurlapBandit,

The right of future generations to live supercedes your right to chow down on meat

TheBurlapBandit,

Japanese work culture is some of the worst in the world.

TheBurlapBandit,

My turn: Channel divinity, turn undead

Wizard’s turn: Fireball, breaking all the turns and hitting me in the process
