TheDude,

Was the image above generate by AI? If so what software are you leveraging for this?

TheDude,

It probably doesn't need that much but I'm curious in seeing how much It can handle until it can't I have more resources available but it would make more sense after this size to start separating the different components of Lemmy into their own individual instances across multiple servers instead of trying to scale it vertically. Might require a little more time than I have but I'll see what I can manage!

TheDude,

A couple hundred gigs worth of ram and around ~100 cores. I'm not sure I would want to bring it to that size without thinking first of a plan to properly maintain, manage and support.

TheDude,

It can definitely run on a Pi instance. The storage medium is going to be important as it will need to house a PostgreSQL database. Would be fine for a few users but not sure how many it would be able to handle concurrently.

Whats the best way to share videos on lemmy?

Lemmy makes it pretty simple to upload pictures currently but what about videos? I found this issue posted in 2022 about integrating a video service but nothing really came from it. Does Lemmy have a road map to solve this issue? I feel like this will be an important part in Lemmy's adoption

TheDude,

I don't disagree with videos not being hosted on lemmy itself however I think there needs to be some more complete solutions.

For example one solution could be to build an API integration with the peertube platform and provide a method within the users profile to setup the API integration with their preferred peertube service. We want to avoid as much as possible people having to leave one platform to do a task on another platform to than come back to the original platform to post a link. This will discourage a lot of people from posting a lot their content due to it being not unified.

Does Lemmy have another location aside from their issues to post future feature requests? I couldn't find a proper place to share some constructive feedback.

TheDude,

Looks like someone is more afraid of the people who gave him the money than facing jail. In either case he could also just be lying and would likely give them up if he ever had to go to jail.

TheDude,

I'm looking forward to the increase in traffic tbh. I have setup a pretty beefy instance with a ton of monitoring on it so that hopefully after the wave I can create a nice write up on what it would take to scale lemmy in the future. I'll keep everyone updated with the results!

TheDude,

I setup my own instance and will be doubling the resources allocated to it before the 12th. Ill be documenting how it handles whatever is sent my way

TheDude,

I've been following this incident and this looks like the most plausible explanation. The pilot was not alone and was carrying passengers. A tragic incident. I look forward to see what the investigations brings to light.

TheDude,

Hey all, I’ll be posting updates periodically about performance and server performance to provide everyone interested with some insights as to how many resources this instance is consuming.

TheDude,

It is taking some time. I expect it to be fully synced up by the end of the day today. This instance has only been online for a few hours at this point. I'm curious to see if there's anything we can do to force a faster sync

TheDude,

I believe you are right. Here's the lemmy docs about it https://join-lemmy.org/docs/en/administration/federation_getting_started.html

TheDude,

Let's see how much this baby can handle. I can always get more servers! Here's the current HTOP results https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/c9515ed7-b201-4e0d-a1f1-c4b496c259b6.png

TheDude,

Thanks! Lets see if It can live up to its name

TheDude,

For those old enough, we've been through something similar before with Digg. Now its reddit's time. I believe Lemmy might be the most logical next step
