does any one actually care about paint?

One of the things that really bothers me about my line of work is that over the years, i have taken the time to actually research and learn alot about paint. I have read hundreds of data sheets, chemical compositions and stayed up to date on the legal in and outs of the painting industry.

yet, today i had a conversation with a customer about the sheen on their paint. They opted for "flat" paint in the contract however "satin" sheen is standard for kitchens and bathrooms as it is water resistant. She didn't know or give a shit. Also whoever sold this job did not do a good job educating customers.

I hate when I have so much knowledge around something people just don't give a shit about or take seriously.

PS: if you spill water on flat paint the stain stays forever. With satin sheen it wipes off because it has an acrylic layer.

The thing is people don't. I was arguing with a property manager a few weeks ago about his concrete steps. I wanted to acid wash, and use a non-porus elastomeric (like a wet suit but paint) product because that is what the chemistry says is best for cement applications.

He said no, just use regular wall paint because of a $25 product cost difference.

It's like people don't give a fuck at all. And it's hard because I have spent my entire adult life trying to be a professional in this industry and yet I make the most money when I throw paint on a wall.

they have this new trim called modified fiber board. Most doors, trim work, cabinets are made from it now. It is ground up plywood which mixed with glue and then is pressed into a mold. Finally it's coated with a laminate covering to make it "look" like wood.

Runs $.78/ft regular trim runs around $1.20 - $2.0 for real wood.

It's cheaper to replace it than to paint it.
