UgandaSans,

Design wise yes it is a one to one copy, but Voyager was built from the ground up as a web app, which is completely different to Apollo’s “native Apple app” philosophy. So while it may seem at first “changed very little,” it is actually very different. He also isn’t interested in making his own “Apollo for Lemmy” so I think it’s fair to pass the torch down.

UgandaSans,

Can you share a link to his Apollo design specifications? I seem to have missed that

UgandaSans,

I believe he does not like it

UgandaSans,

Based on this reddthat.com/post/8711097 I don’t think he has any interest in Lemmy

UgandaSans,

See here

Also this comment.

I don’t think he is planning on making a big deal out of it or anything, but he does clearly not really like it.

UgandaSans,

Voyager is built from the ground up as a web app, not even possible to directly lift code from Apollo

UgandaSans,

You can modify the app to use your own API key

UgandaSans,

This was taken from the r/ApolloApp subreddit on Reddit, using a modified version of the Apollo app

UgandaSans,
UgandaSans,

I can see why he wouldn’t like the fact that it’s basically a one to one copy

UgandaSans,

It’s not really that weird to see the plushie pop up, and then decide to view his recent posts / comments. Not sure how this post or the voyager post can be considered “attacks” either. I’ll provide some proof towards what I said in the other post in a bit.

UgandaSans,

True

UgandaSans,

i only see this one

UgandaSans,

Yes, Reddit is all just user content, so I do not feel too bad for them, however it is true that Reddit’s free service in the form of their API made Christian potentially millions. However I do feel like there was a better compromise rather than what ended up happening.

UgandaSans,

It’s pretty good but feels slow and off in some parts

This week I'm having @christianselig back on the show to give @apolloapp a Post-Mortem, rehash Third Party APIs, and talk about our favorite Pals.
Have any questions for Christian? Let us know.

UgandaSans,

Voyager is good but Apollo was the best

UgandaSans,

Voyager will never be as good as Apollo, due to the fact that it is a web app, and Apollo was a native iOS App coded in Swift. Don’t get me wrong, I use Voyager and like it, but this is the truth of the matter. It can get close, but it just can’t do what Apollo could.

UgandaSans,

The iOS app version is just a fancier packed version of the PWA. Still has same problems, even though it is slightly faster now.
