I'm curious • I learn things • I share them • I did Good Things • Shame how they ended up • I speak tech • I've just completed the first pass of my unique Great Big Graphics Project online (5 years work! 12,000+ images!) and now I'm researching my Great Big Writing Project following on from it • I post some Follower-only content

Why me and logic don't get along as well as one might hope.

There's this robot who only tells the truth and this robot only lies--

Um, why would anyone build a robot only lies? Why would you even want to do that? If it's a security measure, it only's gonna keep out certified thickies, and in the meantime everyone's gotta put up with the robot's literal bullshit.

Like, if you were planning for the eons, wouldn't it make more sense to ask, say, "Give me a good reason to open the Vault of Ages"?

For my great big writing project I'm coming to realize that I'm never going to be fully prepared to interview the principal parties but if I don't just go ahead and do it anyway the window to do so will close and make the whole notion academic.

Besides, I'm already, like, no one, so if I look like I'm thick(er), like, who shives a git?

I should edit the 125 exhibit pages on the great big graphics project first. Yeah. Tuck into that, I should be done in a day or two or one real long one.

Yeah.

That thing where people are complaining about not tearing down where you and a hundred or so other people live.

I love you fucklechucks too and has it ever occurred to you lot that having strong opinions on shit where you clearly have no idea wtf you're talking about might be considered, you know, stupid?

Today marks three months exactly since I completed my five year 12,000+ image great big graphics project.

It feels weird.

The work is there, the data all indexed and accessible for the first time ever.

It exists in its own space, there to be discovered by a couple dozen folks around the world each day, but ultimately it seems there's not a great deal of difference between the world without the resource and the world where it was created and exhibited.

That's the lesson, I guess. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

He was a twat on city council and now he's a twat as a provincial minister.

Now here's a brain-baking thought, NS voters:

Buddy's just a twat, full stop.

I know, right?

Stochastic terrorism is the right's favorite trick.

See, they didn't say to go kill that person, they just kept saying these random people (wink, wink) might want to go do that.

Hands all clean.

You can bet money this is happening here.

Trump and right wing media outlets targeting jurors at his New York criminal trial have succeeded in scaring off an already seated juror by identifying enough details about them they feared for their safety.

Never, ever, ever forget this is the very face of right wing power lust manifest before us.

Our federal Conservatives are cut from the exact same cloth, beholden to the exact same masters.

Meanwhile, Trump violates gag orders that would imprison regular folk.

Well, bum.

Looks like the hits counter on my great big graphics project got shut down. It's been a couple weeks since number went up so either the world's now sated its thirst for the content - Ha! - or for whatever reason, like system resources or shit breaking down its not updating for the time being.

Oh well.

I'm seeing squirrels again around the Halifax peninsula. It had been worrisome how long it'd been since I saw any. I was thinking there'd been a die-off or exodus because of all the extra noise or something.

I do notice this year's fashionably attired urban squirrel is sporting a much lighter red-brown coat than previous models.

Good to see them back. And, as everyone knows, squirrels hands down have the freshest gossip.

That thing where you're flashing back to that moment a week ago when you were sitting on a sun-soaked cliff-top and for the first time in months felt like a human again and it hits you it was actually weeks ago.

Just avoided a Karen on the hunt. I made no sound or hint of motion - nothing at all. Frustrated, she had to move on.

I'm in the Infirmary elevator, carrying a backpack and groceries.

Karen and a 3rd person get on.

Takes one look at me and goes off. A mandatory masking area, Karen is unmasked. Of course.

"You know what I find insulting? Big scary men with masks."

3rd person got off next floor. She and I are alone. She waited for a response so she could get offended and call security.

People like her, white, prosperous-looking, spoiled absolutely rotten in whatever world they inhabit but still minor characters in it, seek drama at every opportunity and view those they consider their lessers in exactly the same way a cat looking to exercise its claws will look at a set of lace curtains.

She had sized me up in a glance.

I had her pegged the moment she starts monologuing about me to an uncaring 3rd party.

A statue gave her nothing she could use.

Anyone else thinking how the increasing lawlessness and piracy at sea is a forerunner of the same trends on land?

I was just thinking after seeing another Ontario MAID horror story how much more the program can be expanded.

Everyone my age and above could be offered MAID deals in weekly flyers.

It's win-win. We get rid of all the useless cruft like me tying up housing, save on medical bills for aging carcasses freeing up hospital beds and resources and we punish the selfish generation who destroyed the ecology for profit without a 2nd thought.

Money for all.

I expect to see this within the decade.

Well, good news and bad news for Star Trek fans.

Strange New Worlds is renewed for Season 4.

Lower Decks is cancelled with its final 10 episode season this fall.

An unspecified Star Trek origin movie is scheduled for 2025 release.

adwright,
@adwright@mastodon.social avatar

Not following the Lower Decks logic at all.

Family Guy's been running 22 seasons and counting. The Simpsons are now a multigenerational temporal anomaly with middle-aged Marge and Homer meeting in high school simultaneously in the 1970s through the early 2000s.

Lower Decks could run forever.

My latest binge watch is the 1997 Canadian series Stargate SG-1 after I accidentally saw the black hole swallowing the planet episode off-air at a friend's place.

It ran 10 years and spawned 2 sequel series and some specials.

Once you get over how every alien planet looks like British Columbia and I guess the Earth vegetation got transplanted with all the humans, huh, it's not a bad watch.

Good cast, reasonable production values for the era, more consistent writing than most shows: recommend.

Three things my cat does out of the box with original programming.

He likes hot tea. Seriously. I come home with a cup of English Breakfast, he insists on having some and yums it right up with gusto.

He yearns, yearns to stick his head in my mouth. Does it every chance he gets. Me awake or asleep. It feels bad, man. He knows it'll wake me up instantly every time.

He sees things floating in the air around me I can't see and tracks them. Ghosties? No idea. Something though.

Love getting tossed off the path by some chud riding a rolling ball through the Public Gardens at 30kph.

It's hilarious. If I were to slug him with a 2x4 that'd be assault.

Chud gets to do what he likes and the rules are fuck you peasant.

In fact my understanding of things is if I were ever to defend myself from anyone under any circumstance it is me who would be prosecuted while the perpetrator would be considered the victim.

The Cannes Advertising Awards are airing at Carbon Arc Cinema in the NS Natural History Museum basement this week.

Was a time pre-pandemic I'd've enjoyed going to that but now I've had my fill to my tippy top of smiling skillful liars selling folks things they don't need.

I don't find the vignettes amusing any more. I don't find manipulating folks funny any more.

I have no patience with lies in my old age.
