"Tax policy groups have been lobbying to close this loophole for years, and Congress nearly did it in 2022, but Senator Kyrsten Sinema took $2 million from the private equity industry (aka Owners) and saved their $14 billion loophole. It’s well known that our leaders are whores. What’s more surprising, and disappointing, is what cheap whores they are ($2 million for $14 billion)."

"Something happens when one tries to have rational conversations about downsides with people strongly advocating expansion of type-level programming capabilities (…) This happens all the time once extensive type-level programming facilities are available in a language–they immediately get misapplied in ways that makes code harder to understand, excludes beginners and fails to convince those from the outside."

“Again: the skilled worker of the present day is an aristocrat in the world of labor. It is a question with him whether he shall ally himself with the unskilled worker against the capitalist, or with the capitalist against the unskilled worker. Very often he is himself a capitalist in a small way, and if he is not so individually, his trade union or his friendly society is pretty sure to be so.”

"In short, most Americans would probably prefer European working hours. It is just that their employers, and the cost of health insurance, get in the way. The US offers big prizes for finishing top, and big punishments for finishing bottom. That is partly why Europe exports its most ambitious strivers there."

Watching "Genesis: Together and Apart" I find spectacular how much this band (and each of its members) defined the sound of the 70s and 80s.

I've heard many (quite arrogant) musicians through the years dismiss their production after Peter Gabriel left, but seriously, it's still remarkable and very enjoyable to my ears. I love Genesis, with and without Gabriel, before and after.

I've recently come across two socially responsible French conglomerates of software developers, organized as either a cooperative or some other egalitarian business forms, and I wanted to make a huge shoutout to them.

Please visit their websites and, if you want and can, hire them for your next projects.

(Disclaimer: I'm not associated with either, I just find these organizations not only remarkable, but also necessary and fundamental.)

"As Harp climbed higher within American industry, the paradigm started to shift. Senior figures within other companies began to resent her presence at the top of the tech pyramid. What had begun as an unthreatening story of two housewives running an odd little business became one instead of two women successfully building and expanding their empire. (…)"
