Rate Your Music - is by far my most favorite and preferred genre list
Everynoise - although discontinued, it still has everything I need for Spotify’s genre categorization by typing in an artist
Last.fm - I don’t really prefer this anymore, but if I don’t have a choice, this isn’t bad.
Finally, If I can’t find it on any of these, I use my intuition and go looking through the Rate Your Music genres and try to find the most accurate.
Even with everynoise and last.fm, I still match whatever they spit out to rate your music equivalents to make it easier for anyone searching the community. That way everything is consistent and search will bring up every result.
Yeah, it really is a shame, but I’m happy that they gifted this to us anyways! You’d also really like this track as well if you haven’t already heard of it! I actually like it better, but it is an order of magnitude out there compared to this track haha
I don’t believe there was ever any follow up. There is a little bit more info if you check out this video. It’s where I originally found this artist, and it’s a great channel for niche electronic and noise genres.
It’s really cool to see you checking out these old posts. I posted them when the community had basically no one subscribed and it is unfortunate that some of my favorites were going to be lost to obscurity from coming in too early.
You were really missing out on line rider haha. I never thought that the two would come together so well. I think the first song on that album is my favorite post-rock track ever.
I kind of solved that with favorites. For albums I favorite them like I said previously to bookmark them to see all of the ones I care about most front and center.
The favorites for songs though, I use for the use case you described above. Every song I favorite gets added into a playlist using Navidrome’s “smart playlist” feature automatically.
Don’t get me wrong I use playlists ritually, but for an easy “brain off” playlist with every single song I clicked the heart on automatically, it can’t be beaten for ease of use.
