@mxtthxw@davecarter I bought my last 2600 for $125. Paid another $50 to get it shipped down here. Half-worked with epoxy-encased modules that couldn’t be repaired. I just sampled the inanity that came out of it and shoehorned it into tracks… Sitting in a friend’s synth museum last I checked!
@mxtthxw This is why I’ve stuck with software. I’ve equated ‘vintage’ audio hardware to classic cars - delightful to operate, but they are expensive, require a lot of maintenance, and finding parts can be next to impossible. Glad they survived the shipping gauntlet!
Soundtoys are giving away Little Plate in exchange for an account signup - it's a good sounding plate if you don't have one, with about the right number of controls (none).
@davecarter@mxtthxw It's been a looong time since I’ve used SpringBox you now have me curious for a comparison. Just dragged the iLok auth out of mothballs to see. :)
@mxtthxw@davecarter Love the Filter. Spring Verb is nice and Sproingy. The delay is nice. Love automating the switches for filter and modules. I don't use it all the time, but nice to have when I do. Sadly, it look like it's been discontinued…
@jk@mxtthxw You forgot PPQN resolutions and BPM to Delay calculations… :)
I would also add figuring out which MIDI devices were ‘first in the chain’ (of an Interface) because of timing slop and slow envelopes (looking at you Emulator II)
Sort of getting the hang of #Reaper a lot more. It really is very cool what can be done in terms of customisation. Certainly beats Avid, their idea of a cool feature is put a shop in the software. Hope to get a few more hours in tomorrow before work.
@mxtthxw so much amazingness in Reaper. Monitor FX Bus, Pan type per Channel, Delta Soloing in the FX slots, and yes - you can even make it look (something) like SloTools. 🤣
@mxtthxw@essjay I’ll also rec the HD-650’s but they can be a pain to drive effectively (high impedance). Like mxtthxw, I like the AT’s (surprisingly the ATH-M20x cheapies) for daily drivers. Find a pair you like and just use them - you’ll learn the foibles and flaws and how to adjust for them. :)
@mxtthxw@essjay I got some replacement pads on scAmazon and they are a bit better, but I don’t have a pair of cans that needs ear breaks regardless of cup material.
@tannerman@ernie My youngest loved Alpha Bits. Haven’t been able to find them for years now… you can still find ABC pasta and meatballs in a can though!
