The nostalgia hit me hard so I ordered this off of ebay this week. 30GB. Color screen. Just like the one I accidentally left on an airplane back in 2007. Kick. Ass....
I’ll never forget actually winning a 4th gen iPod through one of those “shock the monkey and win an iPod” things.
You had to sign up for some magazines or some shit, and then get five people to do the same thing under you.
At the time I had DSL that gave me a new IP address every time I connected. So I was able to pretend to be six people and do it all myself. I couldn’t believe when the fuckin thing actually showed up at my door.
First off nobody can agree on anything, ever, so this is some fantasy world that will never exist.
Second, I’ve seen this complaint for at least 20 years and yet the Linux ecosystem is stronger than ever.
Fragmentation is a strength, not a weakness. There are amazing developers who would never have had the opportunity to contribute if development was monolithic like you are proposing.
This will be a nice quality of life improvement for embedded folks. Right now we have to use mkimage from u-boot. It’s not a huge problem but it’s nice to have the tools included with the kernel.
As a long time Vimmer, I have recently started using Emacs out of sheer curiosity. I chose Doom Emacs as it has evil-mode enabled by default, and do not want to dive down the rabbit hole of configuring the editor from scratch (at least, not yet!)....
Our current understanding having spoken to systemd developers is that we should be able to find a path that brings us much closer to upstream, if not entirely.
The only way the systemd developers will allow musl support upstream is if musl supports the glibc-isms that systemd uses.
They have been extremely clear that they will not carry patches for other libcs.
