awdsns,

Beautiful! I actually didn’t know the peggies also had these kind of slow, melancholic songs. That’s on me never venturing farther into their music than “Kiminosei” and “Centimeter” though… I missed out!

Maaya Sakamoto - Kiseki no umi [1998] (www.youtube.com)

I rediscovered this song not that long ago, and an immense wave of nostalgia hit me when I listened to it. I distinctly remember sitting in my room in the late 1990s, having downloaded a compressed-to-hell clip of the Record of Lodoss War TV opening via my parents’ dial-up line, watching it again and again, enchanted by this...

awdsns,

A true classic! Still a banger!

I’ve read that Linkin Park were a main inspiration for them, and in this song I can definitely hear it, but it still manages to be its own thing.

awdsns,

Thanks for posting this! Really interesting.

Browsing around on YouTube, I got recommended this other song “Hazukashii” with similar vibes. For some reason it’s on another channel, which only has this video. Still seems official though?

ClariS - ALIVE (The First Take) (www.youtube.com)

The other ClariS post reminded me of this version of the Lycoris Recoil opening theme “ALIVE” from The First Take. This beautiful piano and strings arrangement really allows the two to shine. And how they shine! There should be no doubt after listening to this that they are excellent singers....

ClariS - Samishii Nettaigyo, Scrambles ver (youtu.be)

ClariS have put out an 80’s inspired EP culminating in this Wink cover, which is also remixed. I grew up with the music of Stock, Aitkin and Waterman in the 80’s, and I’d like to think I’d have been into Wink if they had ever made it to the UK then. I find the 80s pop scene in Japan pretty impregnable, so it’s fun to...

awdsns,

I have to admit I basically only know ClariS through their anime-related songs. 80s synth-pop was also pretty formative for me I guess, so this was very interesting to me, thanks!

This song must have been really big when it came out, it even has its own Wikipedia page in English.
And the original MV is also available on YouTube: youtu.be/iBDnRK9ACTY

awdsns, (edited )

Ha, just came across the video for the original version of the song, which seamlessly continues from the video for Haikarasan ga Toru (although the track on the EP actually comes afterwards). I found that pretty neat.

awdsns,

Naja, besaufen kann man sich auch damit. Aber dafür geht wohl nicht ein Großteil der Zuckerrohrernte drauf.

We're the creators of Lemmy, Ask Us Anything. *Starts Monday, 7 Aug, 1500 CEST*

This is an opportunity for any users, server admins, or interested third parties to ask anything they’d like to @nutomic and I about Lemmy. This includes its development and future, as well as wider issues relevant to the social media landscape today....

Tbh I think the display names as they currently work are dangerous. What would prevent me from setting my display name to nutomic@lemmy.ml? Most front-ends would not show that I’m actually not you at first glance.

Edit: Misread the question as being about display names. Full unicode support for usernames would be even more dangerous, basically opening the door to unicode homograph spoofing on that level too.

awdsns,

Which front end would show both names? On (mobile and desktop) web and in Jerboa I only see the display name if it’s set. And the only limitation seems to be that a leading @ is not allowed.

Majiko - Irony [2015, original vocaloid: 2012] (www.youtube.com)

Majiko, like quite a few Japanese singers I guess, started out singing covers of vocaloid songs. And it’s these songs interpreted by her that I love the most. I’ve already posted her heartbreaking live performance of Kokoronashi here, but this is the song through which I discovered her. It was actually this fan-made video...

awdsns,

Definitely a bop! Turns out I had already given that video a like on YT. 😄

The other song is good too. Are all of their songs in this kind of harder, but fun, upbeat style?

awdsns,

Bilibili is I think the major video streaming site in China and a number of other east asian countries, basically their Youtube. It is “legit” in the sense that it’s a major company and they also have official paid offerings e.g. for anime streaming. What it probably doesn’t have compared to Youtube is an effective copyright strike system. Whether you think that’s good or bad is up to you, but it’s probably why the song is still available there and not on Youtube. :)

That song is also nice. But the singer doing it in the same high-pitched cheery voice was a bit incongruous for me. I was kind of hoping she could also pull off a deeper voice.

awdsns,

Watching the video, I wished the bassist were a bit more prominent in the mix. She’s always rocking out and her fingers are moving lightning fast, but her track is barely audible under the guitar.

awdsns,

Listening to the track as proper streaming release and better speakers, she’s more audible. Could just be the mix for this music video, or maybe Youtube audio compression at fault.

awdsns,

Glad you like it! Same here tbh, this song has been on heavy rotation during the last week. This band just hits just the sweet spot between cheerful singing, but not too poppy, rather garage/grungy sound for me.

awdsns,

Thanks for sharing (and also linking back to your other post)! A bit of context always helps me a lot to appreciate a track.

awdsns,

Not rambling at all, really interesting! This is the kind of content I would love to see more of in this community. I will definitely check out the songs you linked!
