Yeah for sure. I went to the Join Lemmy website and was so confused about where I was supposed to create an account. Once I found lemm.ee and their intro to Lemmy article, it got way easier.
“They’re shooting themselves in the foot,” Mir says. “The content of the users is what makes the platform worth visiting. These hosts kind of run into this confusion that their hosting is the reason people are going there, but it’s really for the other users on the medium.”
I agree, I think Lemmy needs to be more easy to use and accessible if we want it to go mainstream. Us tech nerds tend to grossly overestimate what the average computer user's tech skills are. Here's an interesting study showing that most adults in the world barely know how to use a computer at all: https://www.nngroup.com/articles/computer-skill-levels/ Of course, people who are on Reddit already have a certain degree of tech-savviness, but Lemmy still has a more confusing UI than Reddit.
Anyone can look at my youtube and know exactly what my current fixation is. It's also annoying and makes it really hard to pull myself out of it. It's like a hyperfixation amplifier.
I mean yeah, but it's not always possible for someone to move, especially in the short term. Maybe it's too expensive or they can't sell their house. This could be a good survival strategy in the meantime

Had a fascinating chat with my high-school senior cousin (who is 20 years younger than me) about her plans after graduation next year. Obviously BYU is not on the table....
I feel this. I'm a few years older than OP's sister. Back when I did believe, I constantly battled the cognitive dissonance between a God of love and a church against LGBTQ+ people. I desperately held onto the hope that the policies would eventually change.
I have an unusual name so when I meet new people my brain focuses on their reaction to my name and how they pronounce it, so I completely zone out when they tell me their name. I might remember it for a short time but almost always I forgot their name if I don’t interact with them frequently.
What I mean: I've been thinking about doing the laundry every moment of the day for five days and it has prevented me from doing anything or experiencing happiness, but somehow the laundry is still not done
