@caroga Canon R6 MK II

brunty,
@brunty@brunty.social avatar

@caroga I was/am, don't use it though. I'll probably be posting stuff here and on instagram if I do post things anywhere.

@caroga [at]brunty on Vero if I do start posting there, just threw a few 35mm film photos up there from a couple of months ago

@caroga It's a lot lighter than the 7d, but once this lens is on it's still weighty (the lens is about 900g itself)

No results yet, haven't had the chance to go out with it. I might try and get out tomorrow a little in the city with it as I have a free day!

That's the Tamron 24-70 f2.8 Canon EF lens with a Canon EF-RF adapter to make it fit this camera (there's no 3rd party RF lenses yet and Canon glass is ££££)

Modern cameras have so many options on them compared to my old DSLR! 😂

brunty,
@brunty@brunty.social avatar

@caroga the adapter is the Canon official one and it's solid. No movement, great fit, apart from the extra length needed to make EF work with RF it's like it's not even there.

I love my nifty fifty, much lighter with just that and the adapter on, hah!

Lemme go weigh it and let you know shortly :P

Camera + Adapter: 783g
Camera + Adapter + 50mm: 943g

Not much to add.

@ocramius @david_whitney is all-round awesome and that talk is 10/10

Also talking about supply chain attacks for abandoned / languishing popular packages feels extra relevant given recent events!

@sally I love that hornED viper is a thing with the pretentious symbols replacing the letters from earlier seasons.

More things need silly names!

Taking time to enjoy hobbies away from my computer has been real good.

Bought a new camera. Canon R6 MK II. Aww yiss.

Now to wait impatiently for it to arrive

Music used to be such a huge part of my life, I played bass in a band, and there was something playing almost constantly on my stereo / walkman / iPod in my teenage years and into University.

But the past 15 years or so it's become less of a thing as podcasts and TV series took over. It's always been there, I love gigs, but it's not been at the forefront like it used to be.

I've spent the past couple of weeks listening to way more music and it's bringing me a lot of joy again. Greatly needed.

@brunty@brunty.social avatar

I even found my old iPod classic and I've sent it off to have an SSD and new battery put in it so I can use it for just music.

I have Spotify and my phone, but a device that's offline and only for music feels like a nice thing right now.

brunty,
@brunty@brunty.social avatar

@dantleech I've had surprisingly good luck with BT headphones, my airpods are always in my pocket.

But something about that iPod and a set of wired headphones brings back a feeling of comfortable nostalgia :)

I am going to get a gaming PC, does anyone have any advice for someone many years ago used to build them but hasn't used anything other than a laptop in years?

brunty,
@brunty@brunty.social avatar

@PurpleBooth Happy to help with specs for a budget to pick balanced parts!

Consider the games you’re playing, the resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, whether you want to use things like NVENC encoding for streaming, or DLSS for upscaling (which is v good these days)

The building part really hasn’t changed much in decades. If anything it’s easier now with cases that provide much better building experiences.

brunty,
@brunty@brunty.social avatar

@PurpleBooth I just specced up this: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/vms4kJ

The 7900X3D is only £20 more expensive but better in games (but not as good elsewhere sometimes)

I did prices in £ and it has a 4080 Super which could be dropped to a 4070 Ti Super and would still do very well

brunty,
@brunty@brunty.social avatar

@PurpleBooth (and with Windows, go get a key from a key site if you want, you can save €100+ doing it that way)

brunty,
@brunty@brunty.social avatar

@PurpleBooth And look for offers on NVMe drives as you can sometimes find 2TB for around 100 and 4TB for a little under 200

brunty,
@brunty@brunty.social avatar

@PurpleBooth what you had in your list was a good choice, last-gen Ryzen parts are quite cheap now and it's still an option!
