Curious of other's thoughts on the term "beat" the game. DAE feel like it's outdated?

This is a weird thought but I'm just curious if anyone else feels this way. I'm 39 and grew up playing games all the way back to the original Atari and I just feel weird about the term "beat" when it comes to finishing games. I don't know why, but I just feel like it's weird to say nowadays. I'm talking specifically about story...

Yeah, I guess that's where my head is at. It doesn't really bother or offend me in any way. I just can't help but notice when someone says they beat the game. But that makes sense if you 100% everything. Completing the story feels like just that, you finished a story.

Don’t really have a conclusion to this, just think it’s interesting.

Definitely, I just find it interesting that we still use that term, even if it doesn't necessarily apply.

Yes, I mean, some people don't have the time or skill to play on harder difficulties and they just play on the easiest mode to experience the story. Did you truly beat the game if you do that? I'm all about play however you want. I sometimes replay games on easy just because I want to relive the story.

The struggle is real, my friend.

Itching to upgrade something, but what? (i.imgur.com)

This is mostly just for discussion, but this is my PC's current state. I do want to do a full custom watercooled setup sometime but I'm wondering if anything is screaming out "upgrade me, I'm old". I mostly game and do CAD design/3D printing. Some photoshop and After Effects work every now and then. What would you upgrade?

Oh, if there's a r/buildapc type community I should post this in, then please let me know. Thanks!

Nah, no issues. This was mostly just for discussion really. I guess I could have worded it better. Like "This is my setup, if you had it and wanted to upgrade something, what would be first?".

I mostly play single player story stuff. Right now playing Breath of the Wild on Cemu. But usually stuff like Fallout, Tomb Raider, Sony's games, Resident Evil, and VR on a Valve Index.

I do feel like cpu/mb/ram would be the thing to upgrade next, but I'd probably do that later. I'm probably going to end up doing water cooling the more I think of it.

OOh, now there's an idea. I'm always looking for new things to play around with. Thanks!

It's a little different but definitely fun. I'm not sure I like where the story goes, but I immensely enjoyed the ride.

Games you didn't like but suddenly clicked

Hey folks! Here's an interesting thing that happened with me: I love action RPGs, I love western RPGs, I was addicted to Skyrim. So when The Witcher 3 launched, one of the most well received open world action RPGs I loved it, right? Well... No. In fact, for some reason I can't really understand I could never play more than 2...

NV is by far my fav Fallout game. I think I've replayed it more than any other game. And I still find new stuff every playthrough.

Do we know if it's supposed to be more open world like Andromeda or back to a linear style?
