In Asana you get a notification immediately when somebody creates a task and you can see them typing into it in realtime, which feels weirdly creepy and invasive

Hot take: Polonius was really a pretty good guy

The cats still don't understand that the little dog is blind and are caught by complete surprise every time she runs into them, a sort of sad hilarity ensues.

My theory is that democrats keep going after larger guns to deny us anything that could be useful in the country while still leaving us with the kind that's best for killing yourself.

Nobody needs a handgun, you can ban those. I'd be happy not to have them around.

@Anulap No and definitely not if you're a toddler, and lol repelling armed assault isn't what we use guns for, it's what gangs use guns for.

The dog rushes, an pheasant pops up, pop pop pop!- the triumphant hunter, pistol held at arm's length, turned sideways, has busted the bird with three shots in the head

There's a petition going round in Montana to get constitutional amendment CI-126 onto the ballot that would give us open primaries. Seems like a good step, though without changing it to approval voting it seems like a half measure that still gives parties too much sway.

More than any other place I've lived, I truly don't feel like there is a major party well aligned with the views of most Montanans, so I'm somewhat hopeful

working on a draft of a git cheat sheet, what's missing?

most interested in relatively "basic" things in git that you always forget how to do. Right now I think the push/pull section is by far the weakest

A nice fella came down from working on a roof next door to tell us a dog was in our yard attacking the chickens. There really is a mundane good and evil; some folks are part of the problem and some of the solution in everyday life. Some are aggressors and some are caretakers.

We hacked down this brussel last fall and yanked it out of the ground. The uprooted stump doesn't care, it has sunk roots and sprouted from its side

Most of the US population wants to be a nation consisting of only the cities. The surrounding territories in this system would send food, operate mines, truck goods between the imperial cities, and have no input in their colonial ruler's government.

Once a year, the cities will hold the new "senate," now the name for a battle royale for which each farm state sends not two political representatives but two kids who participate in a televised fight to the death

Have a theory that major pop music brands stick to childish themes just as part of the calculus to maximize audience. Teens understand it, adults at least connect through reminiscence. To touch on anything too mature, to make music that is for adults, alienates some demographic.

Thinking this while reading some recent Swift lyrics and wondering why she doesn't seem to have grown up at all over the past decade. I suspect it's simply not commercially prudent.

General purpose computing isn't any better to use than purpose-built electronics, it's just cheaper to pack multiple functions awkwardly into a device because materials are scarce. Most of us know it's bad that the Instagram machine and the GPS nav machine are the same machine and would like it to be not so, we just can't justify the expense of another machine.

The hypothetical stealing to feed one's family is an obnoxious rhetorical invention to listen to when all the real theft you experience is indiscriminate grabbing of pill cases.

I'm starting to despise abridged Shakespeare. I'm not saying this as a huge Shakespeare aficionado, but when you keep only what's exposition most necessary to the plot, you lose a lot of what was there to be entertaining.

My phone strategy nowadays is to answer and be silent. For an organically placed call by a human, the caller will eventually say something first. Calls placed by computer systems will generally wait to hear some sound before doing anything, so you can thwart them by simply being quiet.

While "absurd abundance of choice" is the meme for modern retail, a very notable exception is grocery store produce wherein an incredibly small subset of edible plants is ever sold

chris__martin,
@chris__martin@functional.cafe avatar

There is not even an "illusion of choice" in the produce section, there is simply and painfully very little available compared to the wondrous variety one might garden.
