Tried signing up for banks that I can use Germany. gives you a 30 day trial for their Easy Green subscription (plant trees for every 100€ you spend).

I signed up 2 days ago, and I’m being charged already.

How are they implementing this trial? Seemingly by still charging you for it, but applying refunds. So I was charged 3 times and refunded twice 🙃

I just hope I’m able to cancel it without having to pay 18€ for 2 days of not using it.

The number and variety of things that have gone wrong in this move would be comical if it didn’t suck.

It was like 90°F in an apartment with no AC, and the fan that I bought and carried back from the store was broken. Not the hardware, but the software. I didn’t even know fans had software these days.

There have been worse things that have gone wrong like plane flight cancellations, delays, rebookings, lost luggage, being investigated for shoplifting, having the replacement clothes I bought be too big (and my wife was being nice and already cut off all the tags), having my kid have some kinda reaction to sunscreen

@jsq Yeah. One by one it's not so bad, but lack of sleep and a jet-lagged toddler kind of compound it together. We're pretty sure it's just temporary stress until things settle down!

@RobW Thanks! I think it will take time for things to settle, but at the very least we have all of our luggage now, and at least 1 working fan at home, so little by little, things are settling down :)

@BasicAppleGuy Since everyone is doing it, my first downloaded apps from the App Store! I still use Japanese fairly frequently, and Anki is still on my Home Screen? I have no idea what IM+ is or was.

I'm so glad we returned to office. Now I get to:

  • Commute 30+ minutes to the office
  • Have all my meetings on Zoom anyway
  • Be late to all the meetings, because I have to wait for people to get out of the physical room

    Always a little understated every year, but Reminders got some nice changes too. Of note are that now you can have sections and lay them out in columns - you can have yourself a full blown kanban if you want!

    I’m not sure I’ll ever release this app but if I do, I’m curious to see if this little workaround will get through app review.

    @simonbs I hope you do release it! Or open source it if not? I have custom shortcuts that write to Notes to keep track of when things happen. I don’t have any way to visualize the data, so seeing this app released would be great! (Or maybe I’ll have to write my own)

    I’m only like 6 hours into Zelda TotK and it’s great. Having a lot of fun.

    The sense of wonder and new discovery has been replaced with familiarity and coming home. It’s very much BotW, just continued. Which is what it is.

    I do miss that sense of “wow” that I got when I first walked out onto the Great Plateau. I had recently finished one of the 2D Zelda games so it felt massive and immersive. But returning to this familiar land feels good too.

    My Switch was the first gaming console I had since PS2 and the original X-Box. I basically bought it for BotW. I’d been emulating classic SNES and PS1 games, and played through Morrowind on my computer, but BotW was my reintroduction to games.

    That’s not something TotK is going to be able to beat. And I don’t expect it to, and that’s OK. Giving me new, fun experiences, places and things to discover in this world is enough.

    I was excited to hear Grandia made it on there — I was the only one of my friends who had ever heard of it, but I really liked it.

    • Lazy exists
    • Property wrappers and macros come along
    • People realize "hey wait you can just do lazy with this"
    • Maybe we should remove lazy?
    • Maybe just keep it for now because it's a huge change that doesn't really change functionality at all

    I'm not sure what my thoughts are. I'm not sure I want a codebase with a bunch of @Annotations, but having two ways of doing the same thing feels weird too.
