Can’t wait for Swift 23

Love that if you delete a really really long, old, large chat in Messages, and then go to the Home Screen and return to the app, it becomes unresponsive and you cannot open the app anymore until you restart your phone

I’m having issues with iMessage today.

The bigger problem is that Apple’s “status” page is just as unreliable as its services.

I guess no one who works at Apple has ever used git branches with Xcode and SwiftPM.

This 4 year old bug is still not fixed.

Good news, everyone!

I just received a phone call from an Apple representative. They confirmed that there was indeed a software bug in the bundle pricing calculation, which was fixed yesterday. They also said that affected developers, such as myself, would be compensated for our lost revenue.

That’s all I know for now. I was told that I would also be receiving a follow-up email later.

The conversation was pleasant, and the Apple representative was very nice about it.

@lapcatsoftware took them fucking long enough. I don’t understand why these assholes can’t give a quick “we’re looking into this. sit tight.” response on day one.

Does anyone have tips for getting Xcode's Instruments to... uh… simply work at all?

It can't seem to find the dSYMs.

Has anyone at Apple ever tried to use this program. 🙃

jsq,
@jsq@mastodon.social avatar

@krzyzanowskim It's in the default location. Should definitely be accessible by Spotlight.

Maybe I should use Onyx to rebuild the spotlight index? lol

jsq,
@jsq@mastodon.social avatar

@krzyzanowskim yeah I tried adding the exact path there and it still doesn’t work 🤷🏼‍♂️

It feels insane that I can get Xcode to make my M3 Max fans turn on full speed.

cjwirth, to random
@cjwirth@mas.to avatar

Jumping into C code is fun because you'll have code that's like:

ct_tsfm(d, n, mp)

and no documentation at the definition to know what these variables are. In fact, the parameter names actually are d, n, and mp.

jsq,
@jsq@mastodon.social avatar

@cjwirth I don’t see any problems here 🙃

It appears that the Xcode file menu option “Resolve Package Versions” is not the same as "xcodebuild -resolvePackageDependencies”.

I need to be able to “Resolve Package Versions” for all targets in a project via the command line.

Is this even possible? Does anyone know how to do this?

Do you have to invoke xcodebuild -resolvePackageDependencies for every single scheme/target?

jsq,
@jsq@mastodon.social avatar

In other words, I want the equivalent of “pod install”.

If I don't use the “Resolve Package Versions” file menu option, then I get hundreds of “missing package product" errors.

xcodebuild -resolvePackageDependencies definitely does something but not the same thing as the file menu.

cc @NeoNacho

jsq,
@jsq@mastodon.social avatar

@NeoNacho well, not entirely sure except that the file menu option seems to work and xcodebuild does not… 😭

How can I get more info?

jsq,
@jsq@mastodon.social avatar

@NeoNacho Ok, so if I run xcodebuild -resolvePackageDependencies with Xcode open and then try to build in Xcode (via the "play" button), it fails with all of the "missing package product” errors.

If I close Xcode first, then run xcodebuild -resolvePackageDependencies, then re-open Xcode, it works as expected.

jsq,
@jsq@mastodon.social avatar

@Ashsr @NeoNacho hm, sounds likely.

yeah it really seems like xcodebuild is just doing nothing in this scenario…

A lot of people seem to think that large corporations are competent because they make a ton of money.

In fact the opposite is true. Every layer of bureaucracy adds a layer of incompetence to a company. They usually create their best products when they’re much smaller, capture a market, and then cash in on that market for decades, in the process becoming less and less competent over time. Success and size breed incompetence, attract it like flies to shit.

Designing for watchOS is really breaking my brain. It’s not just the screen size but also you just can’t have any fluff, any extraneous information or interactions

You need to pare every experience down to the absolute core or it’s a bust

jsq,
@jsq@mastodon.social avatar

@harshil As a Peak user, I think all I would really want is view-only data on the watch, to be honest. That’s probably a good MVP, too.

I have done very little research — what’s the best NAS to get?

Looking basically for something to replace iCloud, so would be great to have access to the files from my phone. Would be nice if I could use rclone to sync with some online services too.

jsq,
@jsq@mastodon.social avatar

@cjwirth oh interesting. I feel like that would be difficult — having the NAS as the primary.

What happens if you modify what’s in iCloud? Would you sync it back to the NAS somehow?

Sounds like we have different needs, but what I do now is get large enough internal storage (4TB) to have my MacBook contain everything important. So my MacBook has all of my data, then that’s backed up by TimeMachine to the NAS & then to the cloud E2EE via BackBlaze.

Then, my NAS also has a Plex media library.

jsq,
@jsq@mastodon.social avatar

@cjwirth you know what, I think Backblaze can also backup external storage. I think this might be what you’re looking for.

You just want a dumb backup in the cloud right?
