If you see an article that says, "Modeling by forecasters" you can basically discount it.

Wow, what a mess. My sympathies are definitely with @internetarchive here. In an ideal world, individual authors should have the right to ask their books to be removed from the library, but for big publishers to control everything via old copyright laws and enforcing it via the courts is outrageous. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/13/business/media/internet-archive-emergency-lending-library.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare

@ricmac @internetarchive We're on the same page, heh, but why should individual authors have a legal right to have the library to remove their books? I'm assuming we are talking about a book the author published and sold and the library bought, and that you mean the request to have some legal power.

Hey users, I am looking for a way to preview/compose graphs, embedded in Markdown. Suggestions?

Why is it that every time I make a full backup over Wifi, my skin starts to itch and my face appears to get hot.

Am I paranoid or is 5 GHz Wifi actually microwaving my body?

@louis that’s shame, not radiation.😂

    @louis That sounds horrible, and I appreciate that you took your time and energy and tried to approach it as you saw best. You can't keep everyone happy, nor should you try.

    Perhaps there are ways some of this burden of being a responsible admin can be shared?

    Really feel like mastodon's design doesn't prioritize protecting users from the actions of a malicious admin enough. If the pitch is "if the admin tries to burn things down then you can move" then for that pitch to work it can't be that an admin can torch everything before you have time to react

    Yes, they can always take the instance down immediately and in its entirety, but thats not what I'm talking about. But hey actually, if that happens there should still be a way to recover and move your account

    EDIT: "make backups" is not a solution because the most valuable part of a social graph is people who follow you, and those cannot be backed up

    @eniko Some servers allow you to request an archive from them, in ActivityPub form. On my instance, that is at https://emacs.ch/settings/export Perhaps you instance does as well? emacs.ch is running "glitch" variant of Mastodon, but I am betting it's part of the core distro.
