So Josh Hart really came over on camera and told Reggie Miller "I think they're saying fuck you" into a hot mic to make sure he didn't miss that the MSG crowd was in fact chanting "FU Reggie"

Deadhead question: When assessing the quality of an individual performance of a song, how important is it to you that the song is sung robustly, with accurate lyrics? Do you care if the performance could stand alone to represent the song itself to a new audience, or can the vocals be buried or a whole verse f@cked up, and you'd still call it a good take, because of the jam, solo, third verse, or whatever? What counts as good enough to support as an individual song performance?

@4CPcomics for myself, to be a desert island or pantheon rendition, it should be a clear and balanced recording with minimal flubs. a small flub can be overcome by a great rendition otherwise. But an entire missed verse or blown change would not make it a pantheon version.

Or if I knew how, I could just do what Dick did for the 9/3/77 Englishtown version of He’s Gone and edit out the entire flub!

@4CPcomics @mrcompletely interesting example, because I have always thought the “reverse” UJB was a mistake that they just ran with and it turned out great. It sounds like Bobby mistakenly goes to the intro and then Jerry agrees and does it with authority at twice the volume. Maybe file that one under “happy accident”.

10/12/84 has a sailor/saint/don’t need love in the heart of set 2 and it’s still a favorite show of mine that’s how much I love the rest of it.

@mrcompletely I enjoy it but I have a few friends who can’t stand it. And yeah Garcia has a rippin solo on this one.

Molly Tuttle is a fantastic performer. Highly recommended. Very charismatic. Strong band. Excellent singer. Good songs, some very good ones. She's also the best acoustic player of her generation that I've seen so far. Her technique is exquisite without letting it get in the way of art. The moments when she switches into precision flatpicking/crosspick mode are astonishing! Her wrist freezes rock solid and all the motion goes into her fingers. And her left hand reach is immense. Wow!

@mrcompletely I have only heard a bit of her but I got tix to see her in a month or so, your review has me very excited.

Because this platform lets me, I’m posting this edit of “Eyes of the World” from a generally terrible Spring 1994 Florida run. With the vocal sections surgically removed, it still runs to more than 17 minutes. What do you call this? Grateful Dead yacht rock? Garcia is never bored or boring, the collective groove is snug, but nothing really changes throughout. It is possibly the widest expanse of pleasing Dead wallpaper music I’ve ever found.

What’s the sound like a gunshot or toy cannon you hear on dead shows in late 60s / early 70s? The Easy Wind from today in 1970 has a few of them.

I stole it from Discord but that's just good clean American capitalism at work
