Issue 2095 of The Sizzle just left my mail server!

Today's headlines:

  • Google's AI answer bot is very dumb, laughable actually

  • iFixit cracks the shits with Samsung and Spotify's 2-yo Car Thing is already e-waste

  • The Daylight DC-1 is an e-ink style tablet that'll do 60-120fps

  • Banning kids under 16 from social media is a dumb idea and people smarter than me agree

And the following stuff is on sale thanks to OzBargain:

  • Cheap Lebara SIM, PlayStation Plus, Moto G54 phone, Samsung 256GB microSD

, I have a Pixel 7a phone with a cracked screen, but the local repairer doesn't fix Pixel devices. Is there someone reliable, quality, and trustworthy I can send it to for repair?

I could buy the kit from iFixit, but I don't presently have the time (or patience) to do the job (too much farm work, firewood cutting, and house reno work to do).

Suggestions appreciated.

@decryption should I put this on the forums?

I have a shitload more stuff to flog this weekend. Going through the house finding all the tech stuff I have that I don't really use much. Probably $5k worth of gear. I have a filthy shopping habit.

The first search that failed since bing and DDG went down was “big chungus” I thought IT had gone a bit overboard with the content filtering on my work laptop.

@mattdarveniza I wouldn’t work anywhere that restricted big chungus

@joffotron it’s a good price! that and the pixel 8a would be a sweet combo for less than $600!

@decryption@aus.social avatar

also eSIMs are a mistake for your primary phone number - making your phone number beholden to an app?? bad idea, good for burner/travel numbers though

decryption,
@decryption@aus.social avatar

@78zeros iPhones in the USA are already eSIM only, seems inevitable that'll happen here too and the others will follow :(

@stevenimpson oh you can't even move passkeys from 1Password to Bitwarden??

decryption,
@decryption@aus.social avatar

@stevenimpson I think Apple has a way to move them to an Android phone but yeah, it's risky imho, they don't make it flexible
