@davidihewlett it's not easy, but I buy only DRM free stuff. That is the only way I can be sure to own it. Everything else is only a rent.
I use GOG for PC Games, used Google music for music (where is the alternative now?) and only not legal things for movies. (where can I buy DRM free movies?)
