dressupgeekout,

If someone finds themselves wanting what LLVM does, but doesn’t want to link against LLVM (which is fair) then I might point them to QBE c9x.me/compile/

dressupgeekout,

My fursona was never trans, but she was always a girl. She represented the ideal version of myself, who turned out to also be a girl, heh.

Her species has changed, though. Originally she was just a dog of some sort. Then at some point I decided I wasn’t afraid to break the mold a little bit, and now she’s a zebra. That species change DOES coincide with my own gender identity journey, though.

(To be clear, I’ve just retconned Hanalei into being a zebra the whole time – it is not the case that Hanalei herself was originally a dog (*) who transitioned into a zebra, haha)

dressupgeekout,

Honestly, the real appeal of Disney+ as far as I’m concerned is the ability to watch all these old TV shows. We didn’t have cable for most of my childhood, and I missed the 80’s/very early 90s of animation.

One of the first things I did with my Disney+ subscription was to watch TaleSpin for the first time. It’s a fun show! I had always planned to introduce myself to Darkwing Duck before long.

dressupgeekout,

Heh, I must not be that old, I only recognize a pawful of these things.

dressupgeekout,

It's a bold and striking artistic decision. Hopefully the game is as compelling as it looks!

dressupgeekout,

You're welcome. Also, some people refer to the game as "Captain Claw" to make it easier to search for, even though that's not what the game is actually called

dressupgeekout,

The 100 Rabbits folks themselves are SUPER interesting and I've been thinking about making a video essay about them, their work and their message for a long time now

dressupgeekout,

Yyyyuuppp! Hanalei has gone through several iterations, but she's always been a girl. In retrospect, it was one of the literally millions of obvious signs that I was trans -- the signs I chose to ignore because I didn't want to think about it.... yall know how it is.

dressupgeekout,

I've had a Lemmy account for a long time, way before the recent Reddit fiasco. It was kinda neat. There were virtually no instances beyond the main lemmy.ml, though, and indeed my account was on lemmy.ml. Nothing to report, honestly.

So I created this new account here on pawb.social once I learned that Lemmy was having a real renaissance, thanks to the Reddit problems. Now all of a sudden there's a lot more activity and a lot more options for where to situate yourself within the whole 'threadiverse' -- and that's great! Finally we have as many options as we've had for Mastodon, from my perspective.

My Lemmy experience has been absolutely improved by the more diverse options. I actually spend a LOT more time on Lemmy nowadays precisely because there are now new instances that cater more specifically to my interests.

(Edit: clarification)

dressupgeekout,

TL;DR have some faith that the reader can figure it out.

Making the character do literally anything that an ordinary animal couldn't is good enough. It's also fine to have "the reveal" come a little later.

In the first sentence of the first chapter of the first book of Redwall, Brian Jacques establishes that this character is anthro:

Matthias cut a comical little figure as he wobbled his way along the cloisters, with his large sandals flip-flopping and his tail peeping from beneath the baggy folds of an oversized novice's habit.

As others have mentioned, clothes are a nice shorthand. Here, Matthias has sandals AND a tail -- that's all the information we NEED to establish the fact he's furry. But there's more: the fact Matthias is described as a "novice" implies some sort of hierarchy or social structure which hints at humanness in my opinion.

It's an example of how the reader can learn about this world at the same time we move the story along -- Matthias is DOING something. No exposition per se is needed.

It's not until a few sentences later we learn that he's a mouse -- "The young mouse squeaked in dismay" -- but that's fine. In the opening moments of the story, Matthias' awkward appearance from his clothes not fitting is more important than the fact he's a mouse.

dressupgeekout,

You already alluded to this, but one of the main reasons why I love writing stories with anthro characters in the first place is because there is so much narrative potential.

In one story of mine, our main character is a skunk, whose extremely large tail is NOT accommodated for in most situations -- cramped seating on a bus or in a theater, for instance -- and this causes conflict. Thus drama, and thus an interesting story.

In the world I'm building, everyone CAN use their tail for nonverbal communication, but not all tails are the same, so not everyone can communicate the same things WITH their tails. In my world, this mostly stems from whether tails can be arched upwards or not -- so, a tiger is able to slowly and seductively sway their tail in a way that a horse cannot.

Another thing to consider is, even within a single species, there are variations. For example, the long shagginess of the golden retriever's tail doesn't apply to a Doberman. So, what personal grooming even means can be informed in part by the style of tail.

One of my favourite commissions of my capybara sona, Weaver.
Sadly I barely touch my guitar IRL for various reasons.

dressupgeekout,

This is wonderful! I get good vibes from Weaver.

dressupgeekout,

Think of it this way. Cis people don't ever ask themselves "Am I trans?" Or, at least they never dwell and obsess on the question like trans people do. (That was my experience at least.)

I'm not therian/otherkin, to be clear, but I feel like the mere fact that you are genuinely asking these questions to yourself is probably an indicator of SOMETHING at least. Maybe you're not otherkin after all -- only you would know! -- but I empathize with the frustration of not having an answer.

(Edit: typo)

dressupgeekout,

Link's Awakening DX, the color version on Game Boy Color, was my absolute favorite along with Pokemon Red. I also remember spending a lot of time with Kirby's Dream Land 2.

Later, I spent countless hours with N+ on PSP. And then even later I discovered the early Star Ocean games, and now my favorite PSP game is definitely Star Ocean 2: Second Evolution.

dressupgeekout,

Yeah, it's prolly my favorite JRPG ever, I love how big and grand the story is. In fact, the non-furry profile pic I use these days across the internet is of Celine Jules

dressupgeekout,

I literally said "Woah" out loud when I read the part where this isn't the first time this guy has been fined on this scale for speeding. Totaling nearly 280k euros over the past 10 years! Seems like a perfectly fair price to pay for the obscenely wealthy -- we know just how exponentially much more money the richest have compared to everyone else.
