Hello @compost,
Question, if you have time: my dad has a load of wood chips he's made, he thinks too much carbon will "draw all the nitrogen out of the soil" if he uses it as mulch. Is that right? Is it best straight in the compost, or can he mulch with it?

@econads @compost Yes. Go for 5 cm at least if you can. As they start to break down, you'll be surprised at how quickly they disappear. Fungi are magic.

Oh, that's the other bonus: you might get a crop of mushrooms. Wine caps in particular really like to grow in wood chips that are in contact with soil.

@compost @econads Inoculating with generalist fungi is a great way to hasten breakdown. Pleurotus and Stropharia are good for this. All you need are some fruiting bodies (mushrooms). Put them in a blender with water, give them a whiz and pour the slurry on the chips. As a bonus, you may get tasty treats.
