This weekend’s data mode station setup is too big. It’s portable, but too big. Am looking at the QCX transceiver, a small ATU, and a slightly smaller design for my modular T2LT vertical dipole system. Raspberry Pi can replace the Windows laptop I hope.

@croyle @VA2XJM @M0CUV for FT8 I’ve gone for an 8” Android tablet (an Oukitel RT3 - IP69K dust proof, IP68 waterproof & MIL-STD-810H resilient). Running FT8CN, and linking to a QDX via a USB-C/USB-B cable. Power for the QDX is from a USB-C PD battery bank and 9V USB-C PD cable. I’ve ordered a FX4CR rig as well as an alternative to the QDX…which then means I can just run a fully wireless Bluetooth connection to the Android tablet. A pretty lightweight setup.

@croyle @VA2XJM @M0CUV we’re an iOS household…so actually buying an Android tablet felt really alien…but FT8CN is an excellent piece of software, and at £169 the tablet is cheap enough and resilient enough to be a good solution for the field, and runs the software well. That’s all it will ever be used for. We have RaspPi, MS Surfaces, MacBooks, iPads etc…and I didn’t feel like any of them would be as resilient for outside radio day use

@VA2XJM @M0CUV @croyle I took some photos of the current 5W setup. For extra power I also have a Juma PA100 amp to add to this for some 100W battery powered action…but would need my LiFePO4 battery for that too
