Checking and formatting phone numbers for app signup in . How hard can it be?

(Turns out: Hard. And I suspected that… Still sucks though.)

In theory, an M4 iPad with 16GB ram and the Magic Keyboard can completely replace my mac, and it is more versatile because it’s an iPad. It needs to run Xcode with at least all the SwiftUI related components, Instruments, and a terminal for git, and have some means of real filesystem based apps so that something like „Tower for iPad“ is possible. It shouldn’t be overwhelmend with outlandish tasks like „using some program to create graphical assets for use in an Xcode project“.

I have a neigbour’s iMac that does not boot up, because the hard drive is 100% full. It’s a Fusion drive. It boots up fine in recovery mode, the drives seem ok. There in terminal I deleted some large files, but this does not seem to free up space so it can boot again. Any ideas anyone besides re-installing? Is there a way to „vacuum“ a Fusion Drive so it exposes the free space?

Question: I am using AnchorPreferences. Is there any way to use multiple AnchorPreferences at once? Like, use an array of points and communicating it up the hierarchy, but using a collection of [Anchor<CGPoint>] instead of the single Anchor<CGPoint> that the .anchorPreference modifier hands over?

Again, Xcode Previews break for some reason when using SPM, and it does again cost HOURS.

Every. Week. At. Least. Once.

This is the real Apple these days.

At least downloading Xcode SDKs is fast. (Officially this is 250 MBit VDSL)

Now I doubt we can buy the VisionPro in Europe before WWDC.

It’s not like it outsells in the US…

Also, M4 seems perfect for the device, and Apple seems to be able to „spontanously“ put it into new products. Will we see a revision with that?

Hm, Apples can change the iPad Hardware all they want, except for the Air having a bigger screen, it won’t make much of a difference to anybody. But they have a chance to give the category the much needed change, if they are „letting lose“ the software. But is this likely to happen just weeks before WWDC? If they mean it, they have to preview iPadOS 18. @appleevent

Just ordered a Unifi „Cloud Gateway Ultra“ and an U7Pro Access Point… (It’s back in stock!)

Me and Linux, a neverending love story. In this Episode:

  • Synology has a Volume, I can create files with the same name that differ only in case sensitivity.
  • I can do the same on the raspi.
  • If I mount the Synology folder on the Raspi using NFS, I can LIST files that only differ in case, but I can NOT create them or copy them over.

So what is it this time? How do I mount NFS with case sensitivity? In my tries it does not seem to have that option, and Google, as usual, is useless.

Betreibe den Raspi ohne Gehäuse. Habe Metallregal.

No idea why I didn’t do this before, but I really love using the iPad as external screen via SideCar and putting a fullscreen terminal on it. Looks both super clean and a bit hacker-y. Best place for terminal windows!

Building a new Raspberry Pi server, this time with docker images. Like HomeAssistant, Paperless-NGX, Portainer, etc… Now all the containers have different ports, is there a way to put them on different local domains instead? Like „paperless.local“ instead of „raspi.local:1234“? I can’t seem to find out how.

Any recommendations on office screens for MacBooks that are not the Apple Studio Display?

My criteria:

  • USB-C or Thunderbolt
  • 60W charging minimum
  • Minimum 4K (non-Retina is not an option)
  • as much DisplayP3 as possible
  • Needs USB ports that are capable of keeping an iPad powered
  • Camera and LAN optional, but welcome.

Why, oh why is Apples own AppleID not at all integrated with their OWN password manager? I want to activate my backup watch, it says my ID is blocked for that, I need to change my password. I can only do that with the settings apps on the devices, and guess what? They are not at all integrated with their password manager for generating and saving a new secure password.

Tim Cooks Apple.

Seriously they should stop worshipping Steve Jobs and remember that he had zero tolerance for this BS.

If Apple is not able to fix the most basic errors in SPM and Previews for YEARS, then:

SWIFTUI HAS TO BE TAKEN FROM THEIR INCAPABLE HANDS AND BE MADE OPEN SOURCE.

It really really really gets on my nerves. Every time I think I have it working, something breaks in some corner that I have overlooked.

Did anyone get on-device previews to work in Modules in 15?

(How to reproduce: Create a new SwiftUI App, add a new package, include a simple Preview in the package, confirm the preview runs fine in simulator, try to run on device.)

Made a sample project and filed a Feedback to Apple at FB13694055
