governorkeagan,

Thanks for sharing that page, super insightful!

governorkeagan,

That’s embarrasing. Thanks for letting me know!

governorkeagan,

Gnome on laptops (gestures just work really well!) and KDE on desktop. Although I don’t use half of the customisation features of KDE

governorkeagan, (edited )

I saw an extension the other day that let you choose which mapping service you want to use when clicking a link to a map. You could click on a Google Map link but have it open in OpenStreetMap. If I find it again I’ll update here

Edit: Found it, MapSwap

governorkeagan,

I’ve not used it myself but I’ve only heard good things about bazzite

governorkeagan,

Unfortunately ChatGPT didn’t listen, would have been great if it worked.

New Linux user, here is my use case. Distro recommendations?

Update 1: Thanks for all the responses! I’ve gotten a lot of very good comments saying I should stick with Mint, and that’s sitting comfortably in my top two picks right now. Between new distros, I’m most interested in Arch’s rolling release model, as it provides some benefits for me for reasons I didn’t really get...

governorkeagan,

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now and you’ve just answered my question so clearly! Thank you.

governorkeagan,

I’m planning on doing the same thing. I only have Linux installed at home. If they really need Windows for something I could always spin up a VM.

governorkeagan,

I’d bet a large number of Windows and Mac machines are mostly just web browser machines

Just getting these devices (libraries come to mind) to switch to some LTS distro would bump Linux market share quite a bit.

governorkeagan,

True. I’m thinking that if we have 20% of the population using Linux at work (like you mentioned), it would still help in converting others who use more specialised software (not just a web browser)

governorkeagan,

Thank you for the detailed response!

Having seen HR slip up one too many times, my natural response was to question the need for questions like this.

governorkeagan,

Firstly, welcome to the Ireland community! Secondly, I had a similar first reaction

governorkeagan,

That’s interesting, I suppose we might start seeing this more often then

governorkeagan,

I keep seeing this and I tried it but I couldn’t get great results consistently. Maybe I need to spend some more time looking into it again

governorkeagan,

I believe Startpage uses Google

governorkeagan,

Slightly off topic but thanks for the reminder that I have a Pixelfed account lol. I really need to find more accounts to follow, my feed is basically two accounts posting photos
