Why you should let insects eat your plants (www.bbc.com)

spoilerRenegade gardeners across the world are embracing a new philosophy: gardening that prioritises insects, not plants. The marauders appeared out of nowhere. Looking through my window, I saw them – dozens of what looked like tiny grey caterpillars crawling all over a lovely green plant in my garden. I watched, with some...

Hexbear tankies said “we’re genuinely concerned that you might choke trying to eat cereal because you didn’t know you’re supposed to open the box first”, which is a very Russian way of saying I should die. And yes, I did have to go to the hospital for an entire bag getting stuck in my throat. So what.

I love the idea of this goober having their nerd’s revenge moment by buying a $100k truck only for teenagers to mock him in a parking lot while he cries over it immediately breaking down. It’s the kind of tears you can only drink from the right wine glass.

68 percent of ACP households stated they had inconsistent or zero connectivity prior to ACP.

We gotta prevent people from knowing about the genocide.

Tesla staff say firm's entire Supercharger team fired (www.bbc.com)

spoilerTesla has fired its entire Supercharger division, staff who worked in the team say. There are over 50,000 Superchargers globally, the company says, making it the world’s largest fast-charging network for electric vehicles. Boss Elon Musk said the firm would cut one in ten jobs, as it faces strong competition from less...

I hope these protests continue to spread with the same departmental support. There is already massive tension between department faculty and admins at many universities and a huge wave of grad student unionisation in response to terrible working conditions facing both them and non-tenured professors. If they can build solidarity strikes with the anti-Zionist students, the scope of the unrest can expand. Any attack on them by police means a response from UAW since that’s who they’re with.

A 23 year-old seems to have written their own wikipedia article about going to every spacecamp and wanting to be an astronaut when they grow up. (en.wikipedia.org)

Alyssa Carson (born March 10, 2001) is an American space enthusiast who has attended numerous space camps and has visited every NASA visitor center.[1] She has been profiled by a variety of news outlets, public interest publications, and interview shows as an unofficial astronaut-in-training....

spoilerLast week, news broke that Tesla had laid off over 14,000 employees, constituting a significant 10% reduction in its workforce. Now, one former Tesla employee’s story of dismissal on LinkedIn is capturing widespread online attention offering a glimpse into the human cost of such large-scale corporate decisions. Nico...

My life exists on the backs of millions of people I’ll never meet. All of my personal and political actions impact them. If I serve myself at their expense, I degrade the ecosystem I’m dependent on. Rugged individualism is a marketing gimmick for weak and afraid misanthropes to turn them toward reactionary politics the same way hippie shit is.

Hey @elonmusk, I need a new Cybertruck! I have to admit it now, this is a lemon (twitter.com)

On my first road trip in the Cybertruck, it’s no longer charging! I paid $100K for this truck, and I can’t enjoy it. I’ve had it for over a month and only drove it for 2 weeks; the rest of the time, it’s been stuck in service. On top of that, the wall connector charger that came with the truck doesn’t work, and service...

you-are-a-serf @M’LORDDDDDDDDDDDDDD, I’ve always been positive even in the midst of all the hate comments toward the wagon and its issues. But sire it hath no wheels and the horses are dead.

It also seems like the service technicians might have somehow also made it so the passenger airbag won’t deploy in the truck with no crumple zones and an accelerator pedal that gets stuck.

edit: And his website for renting this cybertruck, which he calls the future of luxury transportation- lamarmk.square.site

The only people who benefit from antisemitism are Zionists who want to make people flee to Israel. There’s zero tactical or strategic value for a left-wing that’s otherwise built on intersectionality. With some of the most knowledgeable and prominent Anti-Zionists being Jews, it would be nonsensical for anyone at that protest to be against their allies. Liberal co-option of the protests is when we’ll see actual antisemitism creep up.

What's Going on with Shipping - Have We Lost the Red Sea? What Should be the US Strategy Against the Houthis? (www.youtube.com)

In this episode, Sal Mercogliano - a maritime historian at Campbell University (@campbelledu) and former merchant mariner - discusses the current situation in and around the Red Sea and should the US continue to protect ships in the region or shift and focus on US-flagged or allied vessels....

The Houthi have attacked at least one Chinese ship, but I don’t know the circumstances of that. It’s specifically Russian and Chinese ships that are otherwise getting through safely. I’m not sure how maritime insurance rates have changed for them but it’s like 10x for the west.

I feel like they’ve got a strong constitutional case. One BBC article I read said that 60% of their company ownership is by global hedge funds so they just plainly aren’t a Chinese company. Singling them out for having dissident information through an act of congress is precisely what the 1st Amendment is supposed to protect against. With the sale supposed to happen in November at the earliest, the red scare will either fade by then or become a much larger issue they can capitalise on.

Almost 2m trees cut down daily to meet global toilet paper demand (environmentjournal.online)

Right as university campuses around the country are filling with mass demonstrations facing extreme state repression. During what will probably be the hottest year in human history. As all the utility companies face severe supply crunches and the economy is melting down. During 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓂𝑜𝓈𝓉 𝒾𝓂𝓅𝑜𝓇𝓉𝒶𝓃𝓉 𝑒𝓁𝑒𝒸𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃 𝑜𝒻 𝑜𝓊𝓇 𝓁𝒾𝒻𝑒𝓉𝒾𝓂𝑒𝓈.

I could see it prompting a Certified 1968 Moment if/when things get worse this year. I don’t know how it would compare to the BLM protests of 2020 but this decision was bad.

Recipe websites are already such SEO shitholes that I can’t wait for them to them to go through a few cycles of Hapsburg AI. The cheapest LLMs they can use are going to spit out “step 1. combine Sorry This Goes Against ChatGPT’s Content Guidelines flurrh with 50L water vinegar” and that will be the top result because it at least spells water correctly unlike its million worse competitors. Every other LLM will be forced to eat that as a data point if they hope to release a new model with exponentially more data points to sound less nonsensical. Nobody will organically interact with those websites or any third-party community which features them because it feels cheap and has no use value. The only human feedback, if there is any, will be someone they have to pay who probably isn’t a cook. I signed up for one of those AI checking websites to poison it and if they ever select me I’m an expert in multiple fields I plan to just google if I don’t know what the words mean. The top result on google is normally algorithmic shit or someone on reddit who learned it from a bot on reddit.
