Vivaldi is pretty good. Henry from Techlore seems to like it. Also, while it is proprietary, the source code is available to view, audit, and compile.

I don’t know man. Looks like something I’d buy.

YouTube alternatives?

The thing I need that I currently use YouTube for is a place where I can store long, large videos (think around 2 hours). I want to be able to link to these videos, and disallow anyone who doesn’t have the link from seeing them. I have a lot of personal videos at this length and at a much shorter length that I want to be able...

I’d go for PeerTube, personally. LBRY/Odysee would also do the trick, but it tends to have a lot of far-right bullshit on it, as well as being built around crypto.

Yeah, I know.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I was only using SoundCloud to listen to a friend’s new song.

Not only do I already have an account for Funkwhale, but I also have a formidable local collection of DRM-free music in the form of CDs and Ogg Opus. I also prefer to use Beatbump to stream music I do not yet own.

Either the PineTime, or buy one that you can flash AsteroidOS onto.

There are a few kinds of happiness, so here are a few songs:

I don’t tend to listen to much happy music, as it turns out, so I ended up going through my entire library and making a playlist, which you can find here.

Honestly, as soon as there’s a video sharing site and a few of my friends move, I’ll be good to just abandon the web for Gemini.

It’s a network protocol, like HTTP/S. It was inspired by the Gopher protocol from the '90s, but it supports basic text formatting (with Markdown-like syntax) and forces TLS encryption.

Here’s the homepage: gemini.circumlunar.space

Here’s a Gemini browser I like: gmi.skyjake.fi/lagrange

Here’s my personal Gemini capsule (the equivalent of a website): gemini://deafeningcreationearthquake.flounder.online

And here’s an old Gopher hole, for comparison: gopher://gopher.linkerror.com:70/1/txt_index

Please note that you will need a Gemini browser to view these sites. I recommend Lagrange, which is cross-platform, FOSS, and supports Gopher, Gemini, Finger, and Spartan; but other software is available.

Sorry if I’ve made this sound confusing.

tl;dr: It’s an alternative to HTTP.

You’re welcome. Good luck in geminispace!

You know, smoke might actually keep them away. I’ll need to test this theory, but you could be onto something.

Yeah, but I already have a phobia of wasps.

I already use Tutanota for email, but you have to pay if you want multiple calendars.

I mean, I could probably code events manually using colour emojis (🟥🟧🟨🟩🟦🟪⬛️⬜️🟫), but ideally multiple calendars would be standard.

You can put a birthday field in a contact, but it doesn’t seem to integrate with the calendar.
