Added an end meditation early feature to https://Zenti.app. Having some fun playing with the animation.

Made a little bouncy SVG loading animation. This was my first time actually writing pure SVG animation code instead of using a library. Was surprised at how easy/powerful it is. This article from @SaraSoueidan was super helpful https://css-tricks.com/guide-svg-animations-smil/. Check out the code here: https://codepen.io/patrickhill/pen/MWZMLbo

hill,

@amxmln Thanks! Agree big time on the simple things comment. Would def go back to a framework if I had to animate more than a few points ๐Ÿ˜…

Trying to decide between error message summary format.

First has message at top. Page would scroll up on form submit.
Second has message show right above buttons.
Button container sticks to bottom of screen on scroll.
I like the message showing right above buttons because you'd see it right where you clicked but concerned it would cover too much of the page, especially on mobile.

hill,

@taimar @chrisonline would it help if you could toggle the error summary like this? Could actually be more helpful on mobile because you can quick reference all the errors and navigate to them. But, it does take up more space.

Love these mini totebooks from Studio Neat but they aren't as pocketable as I'd like. Took some tin shears to them and now they're perfect ๐Ÿ˜„

sketchpad and pen

hill,

@marcel because now my note pad and pen fit easily in any pocket. AirPods added for scale.

hill,

cleaned it up a bit with an xacto knife. The rounded corner isn't perfect but much nicer overall

hill,

@bsteph what is that? Do I just search for "old punch" or something? ๐Ÿ˜„

hill,

@bsteph oh, you talking about these things? Didn't know these existed. Def gonna get one

Been prototyping a stacked modal UI with @bsteph A modal on a modal isn't usually the best idea but for certain edge cases it can come in handy. Here we're trying to keep spatial awareness and smoothly transition between different states to keep users from getting disoriented.

Now that it feels like the dust has settled more on the explosion of twitter replacement services, mastodon (read: Ivory) is by far the most enjoyable to use... I just wish the text-based-social-media userbase wasn't fragmented between three platforms as much.

hill,

@adam @gn Ivory does a good job a deduping boosts which helps a lot too

what do you use to sketch today? iPad + Notes? tools like Procreate/Linea? Freeform/Figjam? Goodnotes? Physical sketchbook?

hill,

@gn @texec I use Concepts too and I've been waiting for this feature. Feels like it'll never happen. My favorite thing about Concepts though is the ability to select things with your finger while drawing with the pencil. Let's move things, duplicate, iterate super quick. Wish other drawing apps like Linea would let you do this.

Motion prototype I designed a while back. Was shooting for a simple, relaxed animation that quickly communicated what the company does. It's finally real on voxie.com

don't know when this copy video frame feature showed up in Brave, but it sure is useful

hill,

@amxmln oh cool, cross browser feature! Well, cross-chromium ๐Ÿ˜„

Last week I went down a rabbit hole trying to make transparent video for my website. It was a pain to do but finally figured it out. The short of it is use Shutter Encoder or FFmpeg. I documented the process in more detail here if anyone is interested: https://hellohill.com/notes/transparent-video-for-websites/

Some ui animation fun from the other day. Created a tear off ticket. Was trying to keep the callout minimal while still bringing some life into the UI.

I've been giving Obsidian a second try over the past few months. This is my Graph view.

I plan on importing my other ~3k notes at some point. Excited to see the change in this image once that's done.

hill,

@bsteph Looks like cellular life forms or something ๐Ÿ˜„

Been playing with some new button styles. Shooting for a glass effect that works in light and dark modes. Also trying to balance simplicity with a bit of fun ๐Ÿคช

The Three-Body Problem trilogy is the BEST science-fiction story I ever read. If Netflix' TV show adaptation is half as good as the books, you're in for a treat.

(And go read the books. They're incredible.)

hill,

@marcel totally agree, can't wait!!

Giving a run this morning. Only things I've notice missing from my Lightroom Workflows are:

  • setting locations on a map (I like dropping images onto a map as that's how I remember where I was)
  • geometry tools for perspective correction
  • the renaming of RAW files on import from SD card (I know thats not what its for)

I'm willing to trade some of this for native Mac apps and reducing the need for extra roundtrips to and from Lightroom.

hill,

@bsteph The roadmap has file browser support which sounds like it would address this: https://www.pixelmator.com/photomator/roadmap/
