I wrapped up a project with an agency today and IT just pre-programmed all my access to lock out at 5:00pm. It was magical to just be cut off. Can we do this every day at 5:00pm?

    This is obscene. All this does it put more uninsured drivers on the road. How can we actually fix this systemically?

    For context our own WA-based 6-month premium just increased by 27.7% ($1481.50 to $2019.80). And that is BEFORE an expected rate increase of about $350 when we move to Seattle, assuming we make no adjustments to our policy

    Yesterday we went to Artomatic: an 8-floor takeover of a vacant office building packed with at least 1000 artists from around the world that is free and open to the public. A lot of it felt very amateur, but I certainly found some pieces I really liked.

    A large gilded art frame mounted on a wall. Inside the frame, blue painter’s tape has been used to write “I AM ART” and depict’s a simple outline of a dog barking and wagging its tail.
    A wood sculpture, appearing to be walnut, in a geometric, segmented, offset columnar shape. It has a single protrusion or branch that has been charred and left more naturally shaped in contrast to the sleek carved shape of the rest of it.

    So, Three UK were down in my area, across both 4G and 5G for at least 6 hours.

    As I have both my Broadband and Mobile with them, I had zero connection.

    I'm now organising a change of provider.

    I am also tempted to try to invoice them for the time I've lost, but I imagine they have that covered in their T&C somewhere 😠

    @andycarolan This is why I am super nervous about switching to cellular-based home internet. It’s not that cable or DSL aren’t prone to outages, it’s just that IF there is one, there is a separate type of infrastructure I can use as a backup.

    @JensJot @ramiro I would imagine that the passenger has to spearhead making it happen (because capitalism) but from what I know any major airline should have a baked in claim process that will cover replacement items for any delayed or damaged baggage

    Yesterday I made a tough (but long-on-the-horizon) decision to shut down my business, Kickass Conferences. After more than a year with no clients or events to produce, the time has come to pull the plug. I neither have the energy to keep trying to rebuild and run a business nor the justification to continue the life support ad infinitum that Justin was so kind to extend while I tried to rebound from a combination of leadership mistakes, economic instability, and market shifts.

    I had started applying for full-time positions about 6 weeks ago when there was enough writing on the wall to know that I needed to keep my options open. I’ll continue to do so, and seek freelance work in the interim since I have a hefty sum of debt to repay.

    I’m also trying to keep my sights set broadly and consider work that isn’t directly event-related. But more than a decade in the industry and entrepreneurial burnout is making that a challenging thought exercise.

    A lot of the last year for me has been extracting my own personal identity from my work product and the identity of founder or business owner. I feel like I was fairly successful at doing that in the end, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t still hurt, or that I wasn’t disappointed with myself for not being able to salvage the company. It’s a grieving process to be sure, and one that will undoubtedly last for some time still. And this being the fourth business I’ve shut down, to boot…
