Hey all. noob-ish pirate here. Skipping long winded post. I’m struggling to find sources to download/torrent kids cartoons. Some are easy, but I’m looking for paw patrol and it’s scarce on 1337. The more modern stuff and the super popular stuff are a little easier though. Not really any information on the Wiki about this...
Hey hey, great suggestion. I do actually have stremio + torrentio + real debrid set up, works really well! Thing is, I’ve been getting some errors with Real Debrid on Paramount+ kids shows. Seems like they’re cracking down on those torrents or something? Anyway those I’ve just been downloading manually instead, but it’s made me want to download more stuff just in case the streaming setup becomes less consistent :p
I never quite understood the headphone jack thing. It’s a nifty thing to have but an adapter is a one time purchase. It seems like nowadays lack of headphone jack is just a minor inconvenience.
I would be okay with a phone that has good custom ROM support or is supported for a long time. Since I would likely flash a new operating system on it after it runs out of android updates. I have been looking at the Pixel 7 / 7a and will take them into consideration. Thank you for your input!
My previous phone I dropped I was using a phone case that was not slim and a screen protector, but it still broke from a short fall. That is what I mean by durability. Maybe build quality or quality control is what it really is, but whatever it is I would prefer to be able to make cheaper mistakes in the future.
I intentionally stayed away from those brands because I appreciate privacy, and from the little bit I heard about those brands I got the idea that they do not respect user data. It is also why I refuse to use iOS. Pixels are okay because I can install Graphene or something on them though. I will look into those phones regardless, so thank you for the input.
Your suggestion is a good one. I am concerned about purchasing it second hand because there would be no safety net if it breaks, which is what happened to my secondhand Pixel 5a soon after purchase. I am taking your suggestion into consideration. Thank you!
I am sorry for being unclear. I would be willing to pay up to $500 if a phone suited my needs very well, but I am aiming for a lower price. I do not need every feature, just the important ones. Thank you for your input, I will check out the Zenfone!
You grasped what I was trying to convey well and I appreciate that. I will definitely look into the Zenfone as far as repairability goes, since I think that a repairable phone with a few years of android updates might be what I need. Thank you for your input.
I like the Zenfone specifications, but when I watched a teardown of it it appears to be a pain to repair. It will still be on my list, but I do not think that is what I will go for. Thank you!!
The Xperia 10 V has expandable storage, and I have a microsd for my music so that is not an issue. I will look at the 10 III and form opinions on it today. eSim is not important to me.
Thank you for the information about LineageOS. I am unfamiliar with it, I thought it would be a good idea since I was using GrapheneOS on my Pixel and I liked it far more than any stock I’ve experienced.
In seriousness, this is a very promising device. I’ll likely wait a bit after release before pulling the trigger on this phone, but honestly it’s probably what I’m going to go with. As far as rooting goes, I suppose that’s up to the XDA community to decide. The 2 year android updates is pretty short, I agree. But for the price, I think that it would be a good option regardless.
It’s against the rules to post recommendation requests on !android That is a good idea, however I have received far, far more responses than I expected to (I am new to lemmy and I have not really posted on social media) so for now I will abstain. Thank you for the comment!
The storage limitation is a shame, but if it fits all my other criteria I could look past it. However, I question the durability and battery life of pixels. I have heard a lot online that pixels have bad battery life. And my pixel 5a had what I thought was adequate protection, but it failed to withstand a short drop. Despite these biases a used Pixel 6 / Pixel 6a is still on my radar.
Fortunately, I have scaled back my paranoia over the past few years. However I would like to check exactly how much data collection is going on and how much I can remove in the settings and how much I can remove from the baked in stuff.
I did not purchase the OnePlus as it was a hand-me-down. The Fairphone 4 is a bit expensive, but I am considering the investment. Your recommendation about the A14 is a good one and I will strongly consider it against similar priced devices. Thank you!
Definitely a strong contender due to the replaceable battery and other parts. If I cannot find a phone that performs as well in my ideal price range this is probably what I will end up doing. Thank you for the input!
I actually got my Pixel 5a on Swappa. It died ~3 months after I purchased it, so now I am hesitant to purchase a phone used as you cannot return it. I will take your suggestions into consideration though, thank you!
The Fairphone for a long time was sort of my “dream phone” due to the philosophy of repairing it. However recently I have stumbled across the Rog Phone 7 by Asus. It does not have the repairability that I desire, and it is too expensive for my current financial situation. But the battery far surpasses Fairphone’s and although it is not as readily repairable, a teardown video reassured me that i would be able to at the very least attempt diagnostics. Also, it is a newer model so I know there will be support for it for a while. I am not completely convinced that it suits my needs better than the fairphone, and both are too expensive.
Perhaps by the time I can comfortably afford one or the other, the winner will be more clear.
This is definitely an option. However the past few years have not been kind as far as repairability goes, and that would be a must for a used phone. Newer phones are starting to add options for self repair but the majority are overkill for me.

The Fairphone 5 is a little more repairable and much more modern (www.theverge.com)
I'm having a tough time choosing my next android smartphone, any ideas?
