Chasing delight through curiosity. Force of nature. All rules are made up; if they're not helping, we can change them. WHS, Olin, CMU, and beyond; opinions mine.

Yo any friends using Cue tests for COVID: they changed their shit without telling the FDA, the FDA found out and is mad, and Cue's false negative rate may be through the roof. More details here:

Been watching some iZombie. Nice diverse cast, liking the combination of drama and smart humor, plus the cases are interesting. Definitely not for the weak of stomach though.

@mishellbaker for some reason it’s easier for me to handle when the characters are that blasé about it though

After Thanksgiving I will become "Mishell Baker merrily" until New Year, and then I will just go back to being "Mishell Baker gladly," but you must always know in what exact manner I am boosting and favoriting things.

A lot of times when I talk about happiness to others it's as though we're speaking different languages, because so many people think of happiness as a mood, a transient reaction to a certain stimulus, instead of a default state.

Of course bad stuff makes us react badly, and good stuff makes us react with cheer. But when that passes, what's underneath it? What do you default to? And why?

@mishellbaker this sounds related to what I tend to call a “setpoint” — like where do you tend to settle, where is the center point of your resilience, where is your mood sustainable? Though I mostly think of it as part of someone’s personality more than of their situation in life, so idk

what's a popular command line tool (other than git) that you wish had a clearer / more intuitive UI? I'm thinking of tools like dig which has this IMO pretty arcane output format

I'm so excited to share that my book, HOW INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS: INSIDE THE SYSTEMS THAT SHAPE THE WORLD, will be out on October 17th of this year, on Riverhead Books. It's about the globe-spanning systems we've built to meet our needs: what systems like electricity, water, transportations and telecommunications have in common, how they work, and what needs to change to make them resilient, functional and equitable.

You can preorder it now at:
